Spent last evening convexing the edge on my Cara Cara, and softening the jimping to maintain good traction, while minimizing undue hand irritation. Hopefully I will be peeling some hog hide with it soon.

That convex modification looks awesome. Did it take you very long to perform the convexation ? What did you use to perform the mod ? inquiring minds want to know.

I spent about 2 hrs. on it altogether. I used the ubiquitous mouse pad and wet/dry sandpaper running from 320 to 2000, a couple of buffing wheels of varying firmness and compounds from #2 up to #6, and an oiled and compound loaded leather strop. Shaves smoothly, glides through paper, and makes nice curls off the oak piece in the pics.

I did the jimping mod with my dremel, a 400 grit sanding disk, and a couple of felt wheels (hard and soft), loaded with green #6 buffing compound. I lightly worked the grooves and corners with the disk, then hit it from all directions with the felt wheels. I still get solid thumb and finger lockup, but it's not so sharp as to be uncomfortable.

Most impressive! A great mod that improves on an already great knife.

Discussing advantages & disadvantages of edges and grinds on a knife forum is often like running on a treadmill, you burn alot of energy, but don't get very far.:D:D
But here is a pretty informative link:

BTW, my 3 favorite user knives right now are flat with a secondary, hollow with convex edge, and a scandi. So I don't discriminate ;)
