Tuning up an Old Timer 8OT

Had a USA Old timer 8OT kicking around, disassembled, replaced blades with Schrade+ SS, and am in the process of rescaling and finishing for a nice reclaimed user.

Well,
After some thought, I decided to change the look of the 8OT.
When finishing it, I decided to give it to my 72 year old uncle and wanted it seasoned and well used looking where he’s a little older.
I’m sure most won’t agree, but I liked the final outcome of this one with a brand new knife, that has both new and used looks about it.

I thought so as well. I really like the coloring in the bone after removing most of the jigging and heavy dye areas. thank you, greatly appreciated.

Was going to say it reminds me of Case's pocket worn models. And people slurp those up so I doubt it's a minimal amount of people that think it looks good.

Love USA OT’s, buy them when I can them for decent pricing. Bought 12 sets of Schrade+ 8OT blades and will be restoring many over the next few months… and all kinds of scale materials.

Yes, and it gives me something to do. I have a bunch of old pocket knives needing repairs and cleaning, new scales, crinking, etc. i buy alot of knives that have broken blades, scales, missing bolsters, etc. i really enjoy tinkering on them as much as anything, and the Old Timers are easy to split, easy to drill out to pin and peen, and just have that classic shape i love. So, i bought a bunch of parts, pin materials, scales and bought a micro table saw, micro belt sander and mini drill press, been tearing them apart ever since. Rough Ryder kits i’ve built, and a coast lockback I cleaned up and put a black liner/rescaled.

Gerber lockback I bought with no scales and replaced/polished frame, 2 Camillus I had that had no scales I put red smooth bone on and cleaned up lower ends of frames.

That's wild. I've thought for years about doing similar from knifekits.com but I need another hobby like I need to be shot. Awesome way to stay busy though!!!

Got this Camillus bankruptcy knife with no scales and bearheaded it with dyed, spalted oak as well… wife stole this one as she loved it, haha. She picks out my scales I use per project both materials and shaping and then I have her spot check my work, because if anyone can spot anything out of place or not right, well, I really shouldn’t have to finish that statement.
