Gentlemen

I bought Turbo Cad for mac the other day and am using it. Finding the user guide and the interface a little difficult.

Have any of you used it or are using it? Do you know of good tutorials?

Best Regards

Frank Barron

Hey Frank,

You're probably not going to get much feedback on Mac CAD software around here. Being a long time Mac user I've never tried any CAD applications and have wondered how they are to use. Around my shop we are on PC's with Mastercam and software for our OMAX waterjet. PC's can be real pain in the rear and the Mac's just keep on working, good luck with Turbo CAD.

I used turbo cad for a long time and really loved it, it was for pc but the functions are probably the same. The one trick I learned is to set up a page which has grid lines using the paper size that you will most likely use, that is 8.5" x 11. Load this page and rename it for you knife design.

I do not know of any addional resources, Did you get the referance manual with it or is it like all new software where everything is online?
We now use Autocadd Lt which is a real pain in the ass the user interface is really difficult.

I don't have Turbo CAD, but I've used Graphite for Mac for the past 5 years and absolutely love it. It is 100% intuitive and user-friendly. For 2-D, its one of the best. 3-D is not so good; it will do wire-frame 3-D, but it is pretty cumbersome.

I solely use Lightwave for the Amiga for my 3D modeling. Mac's are too much hassle compared to AmigaOS 2.5. Plus, the Amiga never breaks down. . . .

Religious rant over, I'm lucky the ported it to Windows. Everyone I know uses either Autocad or FormZ. I have no experience with Turbocad.

Man, I wish I had a good answer for you, but I don't.

I use ViaCad (Mac), which uses the same engine (main software core) as Turbo Cad. It works very well for 2D, and some 3D functions, but it's not as good as it could be.

I have a heck of a time doing good bevels on blades with it. I know that there is a more expensive upgrade that does bevels well, but I can't afford it right now. Since I'm designing knives, bevels/grinds are pretty important, so I need to find a work around.

If you do find a source for more information and tutorials, please share: I'll do the same.
