When I think of hunting knives, I think of buck. I've got Chris reeve, spyderco, ZT, benchmade, etc but... this year will be my first year out in 23 years and I'm going after turkey. What do you guys recommend? I'd like a folder and fixed blade suggestion. Can be a custom or production. I'm planning on designating it just as my hunting knife.

The Open Season 539 comes to mind
I haven't used it on turkey, but it was a knife targeted for turkey hunting.
Too bad it's not a running line knife now.

I would probably follow Old Hunters advice also.

I was once a fan of Bark River knives, until I dealt with Mike Stewart.

Just packed my tablet in the car, leaving vacation in Pigeon Forge TN shortly and heading home via the ECU VS ASU football game in Charlotte tonight. Can’t post photos from my hosting site via my phone.

Hands down the best turkey knife for field cleaning (via breasting) I’ve used is the old (thin steel) Buck Fisherman 121 (mine is a three line, tip down version from 1972). I’ve used the Buck 102, finding it great for ducks and pheasant but too short for my preference for wild turkey. I’ve used the Buck 112 but the blade is also too short for my preference but the Buck 110 is fine (however too stiff for breasting if that’s how you intend to clean your bird. The Buck 105 would work as well as a modern Buck 121. Good luck on your hunt! OH

ps I’ve used my Buck 118 as well, same opinion as the 105 and modern 121, except a bit shorter.

My intentions with cleaning are gut, head, legs, fan & remove feathers (which obviously doesn't take a knife). Keeping skin intact.

I'm down to the 102 or 105.... any opinions?

Go with the 105...even though the 118 would split the difference in the two. I've used all three and go with the 118.

ETA...I've not dressed out a turkey but have from dove to giant Canada .

The 118 was on my list but it seemed close to the 102?

There's more to a knife than just the blade.
Take a good look at the handle size.
A common complaint about the 102 is the small handle.

It's a nice knife.
Just take note of all the differences.
