Turkish Knife Laws

Hello, I'm new to this forum and am here to explore the issue of bringing with me a knife to Istanbul. I would like to carry a folding blade knife with a blade less than 4 inches. Does anyone know the legality of such an act?

Some travel guides advise against it, saying that Turkey has very strict laws against foreigners possessing drugs and weapons. You might want to watch that movie "Midnight Express", the true story about what happened to an American citizen named William Hayes. You would definitely not want an involuntary extended stay in a Turkish prison!
