Turk's heads - what gauge wire?

So I'm on a quillon dagger kick and am thinking about terminating the fluted portion of the handle on my next one with Turk's head knots rather than solid spacers. I'm using 24ga argentium silver wire for the spiral wire wrap, but have zero experience either 1) tying TH knots or 2) anything other than 24ga argentium silver wire that is applicable to this situation. I was thinking about a 3 wire "braid" of something twisted. Any opinions/recommendations?
