My Township supervisors (being the good little Democrats that they are) decided to jump into the feel good/look good world of gun buy back programs. They ofered no compensation. They just said (In 2 ads in the paper) the police would collect and destroy any unwanted guns, no questions asked, for township residents. Of course noone in the Dept. knew anything about it except for 1 turncoat Sgt. who wasn't talking for fear of angering the troops!! He let it slip that I was supposed to work this detail yesterday! Unfortunately I have been laid up by the flu (of the blue variety) and was unable to attend the festivities. The higher ups will be assailed with the facts next week.
A day of lying in my "sickbed" has given me an idea.
If anyone out there has any uwanted khuks (especially evil assault khuks) I am offering to collect them free of charge, no questions asked, and "properly dispose of them".
You vill haff a von month grace/amnesty period to turn in all illegal veapons after vich you vill be hunted down and prosecuted!!!!!!!!! Heil Hit.....!! (read with a German accent for the proper effect)
This kind of crap makes me want to puke!

I can understand doing this in the big cities where kids have these guns. The ones where they at least offer something in exchange.Food, money whatever.Remember the mcdonalds thing awhile back? Its all a big joke. The people who use their guns for crime arent going to hand them over for a big mac.

There is a flip side to this. I have seen good collector guns i.e.Md.12 Winchesters, L.C. Smiths, Triple lock S&W, WWI 1911s turned in and destroyed. Also it is a good way to get rid of a murder weapon.

Just some I witness observations.

Guns are for show. Knifes are for Pros.

Very good points. Not to mention, what if some kid decides to turn in his parents guns to make a few bucks. No questions asked. The more i think about the programs the more irresponsible they seem.If you need to get rid of a gun that bad then you can always take it to the local police department and im sure theyll be happy to help you.

RC,
And they turn in guns from murders and let the fuzz get rid of the evidence for them. They turn in junk and stolen shooters as well. I hade a Colt's single action 44-40 made in about 1885 done up this way.

Shhhh…. I’ve been waiting for a buyback program to come my way. You see, I have an old SA 22 whose action keeps locking up. It’s not worth fixing. But I figure if a buyback program comes around I can get enough for it to make a nice discount on a Ruger Single Six.

There’s really nothing wrong with giving people an easy way to get rid of guns they don’t want. Of course, if anyone turns in a stolen gun I believe they should be investigated, and prosecuted if warranted.

Unfortunately the guns are not checked. These programs are a favorite dumping ground for criminals.

While there is nothing wrong, per se, with giving people a place to get rid of unwanted weapons I do not feel it is the governments responability or place to do it. It will only lead to worse things.
Give most men an inch and they'll take a mile. Give the government an inch and they'll take your ruler and beat you with it!

Every government buy-back program I've ever heard of they destroy the guns. Not one has ever sold the guns to responsible citizens and given the money to charity. Or to law enforcement. I think that shows the motivation for those programs.

If I ran the governnment I would buy guns and give them to responsible citizens who can't afford to buy their own. I would give priority to women.

It's not that long ago that the US government sold surplus military rifles to any NRA member for practically nothing. They subsidized the NRA in other ways, too. They wanted Americans to have guns and know how to hit what they aimed at.

I hope everybody appreciates how calm and unemotional I am being. I think I deserve a pat on my widdle head for not yelling and throwing a tantrum despite the extreme provocation. So does everybody else who's posted in this thread -- please consider yourselves patted.

Send your unwanted weapons or other usefull tools to:
The Office of The Marshal,
Council Bay,
Holmen,WI 54636

I`ll make sure that they find a loving home.
I`ll arrange any FFL or NFA Class 111 details.
Could this windfall happen?

I feel, the many concern of most politians when creating(weapons)laws;is politics and not for the safty of the citizens nor those that have to enforce the law.

Jaeger, I'm very relieved to see that there are LEO's like you out there who see this for what it is and do not feel threatened by the idea of law abiding citizens being armed--people who use their guns to stop crimes, rather than to commit crimes. Here's to you and those like you--I wish there were more like you in my city.

I had it out with my Sgt. yesterday over this issue (he is supposed to be one of the good guys) and almost crossed the line into insubordination.
He gave the media who attended the "event" a very pro gun interview. All of his pro gun statements were either cut out or buried in a voice over. The media does not want the truth.

Good cops and good citizens are on the same side of the fence. When I try to figure out which side of that fence politicians are on, I can't. They seem to be on one side one day, the other side the next -- or trying to tip toe right down the middle.

Khukuri FAQ

That's why Congress is scared of Nevada, Uncle. There aren't that many, but there are still a few people out here who know how a bordello/brothel should be run properly. There's also a bunch of half competent ones, most of whom I used to know. Look up a book called "The Nye County Brothel Wars" by Jean Kassingdorf. I had recommendations to Law School from a bunch of them.

If we sent a delegation of such people to Washington for a month, they'd have Congress figured out in a week, and more goods on them in a month than J. Edgar ever had in his secret files.

Rusty, I was there living in or very near (Death Valley Juntion) Nye County during the Nye County Brothel Wars and an adventurous time it was.

I knew pretty well Bill Martin (stage name) of the Shamrock Inn in Lathrop Wells. He was shot to death. I was great buddies with Sherry Richardson who ran Sherry's Crystal Palace near Stateline. I heard she died of a heart attack or was poisoned. I stopped in to visit Fran of Fran's Star Ranch a few years back at her place just outside Beatty. We were pals because I got her some free press. She was looking pretty bad and I'm not sure if she is still alive or not. I also knew the folks out at Ash Meadows. About the only guy I didn't know well was the fellow who ran the Chicken Ranch over by Pahrump. I didn't get to Pahrump all that often.

Based on my own personal experience I'm inclined to agree with you.

And for whatever this has got to do with anything -- maybe good citizens, guns, and the like -- I also lived over near Wildrose Station when Charles Manson and his clan were living just down the Panamints up at the old Barker(?) Ranch. I saw him and a couple of his cohorts drive through a few times but nobody knew he and his ilk were responsible for the murders down in LA at that time. They arrested him just a week or so after I left on another journey.

Uncle Bill has been around the block -- more than once!
