Turn In Your Knife Before It's Turned On You

What good does this law do? The law abiding citizens who turn in there knives aren't the ones doing the stabbings, it's gang members (if you have gangs over there) and psychos that aren't going to turn them in.

Wonder if we could get any donations here for British candidates willing to control this sort of nonsense. Then again I guess it might just seem like interference. Is there something like AKTI in England?

Canada had this same scenerio with guns. Turn in all your illegal firearms before a certain date and you will not be charged with any crime. It had to do with our stupid gun registry.

Is this a picture of what we will see in many other countries in the future? I hope not, but think it is quite likely. Knives are a favorite target of politicians, lawmakers and members of the news media that want to score points with the large percentage of the population that is paranoid. These people have come to believe the BS that if you get rid of the guns and knives, you will get rid of the crime.

Cant find the response I left yesterday but after a certain level more law leads to more chaos. Gun restriction in England left 1 legal shotgun for every 15 people in Kent. Quite a few people who were due to have to dispose of excess weapons simply sold them illegally to friends before they had to declare them. It's the ammunition that kills after all but that can be got around. Illegal weapons of war (mandatory 5 year sentance for possession) sold for around $120 with ammo at local pubs. No mass slaugthers to report so far. Is this success for gun control?

This whole topic is always in danger of turning into a very emotional discussion.

In the UK it is illegal to carry a knife in a public place without good reason (self-defence is not an accepted reason) unless it is a small slipjoint.

Teenagers carry knives - in some cities in the UK this is a problem, but not in all cities. Kitchen knives are involved in about half of all knife crime.

The media love this sort of thing.... it gives the TV, newspapers etc. a chance to get really hysterical and irrational without anyone daring to criticise them.

The amnesty declared by the police has nothing to do with crime prevention - it is just a great public relations orgy for the police. It has the enormous attraction of taking attention away from the real crime prevention and law and order issues that the police are incapable of dealing with :
for example, massive drug smuggling, people trafficking, organised crime, large scale fraud, money laundering

these are the crimes that threaten our economy and our society much more than a few stupid teenagers in Glasgow getting stabbed.

Recently, the police in London seized 2 tons of cocaine, destined for distribution throught the UK by a Russian gang.

This has had a huge impact on the street price of coke in London and there has been an increase in violent crime, carried out by people who will do anything to afford their next score.

And what are the police doing ???

Trying to convince us that by taking knives from people, the country will be safer.

Who are they trying to kid ?

For once in my life im almost speechless

This is some serious orwellian future type shit. As soon as i turn 21 i am getitng as many guns as i can and stashing them. I know it sounds unlikely but if this kinda thing happens here i wanna be prepared. Usually i think that weapons caches are for religious nuts. But this is really starting to unsettle me. they really do want to be in complete control. As was stated earlier this is starting to be mroe orwellian than is at all healthy. They really want us to be sheep. Unquestioning unthinking and helpless.

I didn’t know they could carry a non locking folder under 3 inches, that makes them freer then Australians or at least us in NSW.

I guess passing stupid laws to make law abiding citizens criminals is a lot easier then actually stoping crime.

This is true, in Australia we can not carry ANY knife or such object in a public place without a very good reason and self-defence is NOT acceptable......this is why we are looking at legal alternatives all the time, such as walking sticks/canes, stout pens, umbrellas, keyrings etc.....this may come your way eventually, so enjoy while you can.

Yep, I’m a law abiding citizen never even been in a fight other then getting mugged when I was a kid and I risk going to jail for two years everyday because I carry one of my little 2 inch blade knives to open packaging.

Sir Robert Mark (Police Commissioner in the UK in the 1970's) once commented that: "We can only win by appearing to lose." It is clearly in the Police Association's interest to manipulate conceptions of crime and public safety to garner support for increased powers that they don’t need.
This quote basically sums up UK/AUS law making.

Don't let them get their hands on the # of people killed in car wrecks or else you will all be walking. A very sad day for you guys across the water!:(

as it has already been said, it is no more than a publicity stunt to show just how much good they are doing.....no person with any sense is going to turn in their knives wehter they are a collector or criminal

its the same sort of knee-jerk reaction as when they banned self loading riles in 1988 and handgunds in 1997.....in the latter case, the criminal should have never been allowed to posses firearms legally but for some reason his license and firearms were never revoked.

all our government do is lie and do stupid things like this to win favour with all the tree hugging do-gooders that think the sun shines out their ***

that way it helps win them votes as the do-gooders soon forget that they have buggered up everthing else they looked at, thought about or interfeared with

ah...thats better...rant over

By the way, there is no way I am turning in any of my knives to anyone.

Just so that you know that.
