TW-90 110V vs 220V

Stuart, I am running my tw90 on a 110 circuit with a 15 amp breaker, (because I am to lazy to change it) and I cannot stall the motor. not even grinding a 1.5" wide piece full length on the flat platen. you won't have any trouble at all.

Norton is the MFG of the belt blaze is like the model. Blazes come in 24-36 60 and 80- 120 i think? I really like the blaze belts. They last quite a long time. I get all my belts from trugrit. Then i switch to gator belts after grinding for polishing 220-320-400- then a 30 micron and like Tom said, makes the hand rubbing go a lot faster. i would love a TW90 im still using a grizzly.

forgot to mention but i typically use 36 for hogging, and 80 for cleaning up and switch to gator belts at 120+

For me, that will be the ins/outs of a 2x72 and technique, which belts to use for what, etc. Speaking of belts, that is something I had better start learning. I suppose I have 4-6 weeks to catch up, according to Travis's ETA.

Stuart, I just realized you are in SA. You are more than welcome to come out to my shop and get acquainted with the tw-90. I am only about 45 minutes northwest of SA (depending on traffic)

I've bogged down the 2hp I have but not very often. i was thinning some 2" wide 3v with a fresh 36h blaze. I can really lean in at 315lbs. Not suggesting this is a problem in regular use. I made most of my knives with a craftsman 2x42. That would bog down.

I've got a thin backed 220 grit Norton ceramic. I think it was a blaze, but I'd have to look again. Just looked. It's a Norton j weight ceramic. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know how it works.

FYI You mentioned you're renting a house and garage. As a knifemaker and a landlord, you might want to get permission in writing from your landlord. Some insurance companies, like mine, doesn't permit renters in residential venues to operate certain machinery, especially heat treat ovens.

Thanks Alan! I'm getting an itchy grinding finger! Gabe and Warren...thanks for the further education on belts. William...thank you for your thoughts.

I used a TW-90 for the last 4 days at another maker's shop.
His is a 220 2 HP, no question that is the way to go.

One thing I didn't like about the TW-90 is that the sparks and debris tend to come around the wheels and over the top right into your chest.
Not sure if this is because the drive wheel is mounted higher that other grinders I have used.
Even the tilt plate that comes down doesn't help (much)
