Man, I feel like I wasted the day. Washing machine crapped out, and given the grinding noises, I suspect it's the transmission. My wife and I got it as a wedding gift, so it's fifteen years old. We got our money's worth.

Anyway, spent the day shopping. Wound up going with an LG front load set after reading some reviews and consumer reports. We got The Home Despot to price-match a Best Buy sale. $180 off each unit right off the bat. After some argument with management, we held them to an offer they made earlier in the day to give us a 10% discount. And then somehow (I don't know if my wife flashed someone or what) we got an additional 10% of the price reduction discount.

$1600 setup for $1080 (before tax). Not as bad as it could have hurt. It's been a day of bargain hunting and dickering with folks who don't know math. Even with the triple discount, I had the final price figured out in my head in seconds. Our customer service rep at the desk couldn't do it with a calculator.

Well, I wanted to go with the $175 set on craigslist, but my wife was jonesing for this newfangled front-load business. She does most of our laundry, so it's important that she be happy with the mo-sheens. She doesn't complain when I buy new, quality power tools. Or knives. Or bikes... You get the picture.
