"From the cowardice that dare not face new truths,
From the laziness that is contented with half truth,
From the arrogance that thinks it knows all truth,
Good Lord, deliver me."
Kenyan prayer, quoted in George Appleton comp The Oxford Book of Prayer Oxford 85
This one is important to me for two reasons:
1) I think of it whenever I'm trying to cut through the clutter and noise, and get to the truth of the matter. I pray to the Lord that He provide me with the wisdom and perceptiveness to see through phony arrogance, lazy ignorance and cowardly avoidance.
2) It reinforces my formerly shattered belief that good things can originate from anywhere, even Kenya.
I love quotations, and have 10 or 12 Notepad text files loaded to the gills with different ones categorized from politics to patriotism to Founders to gun control to courage and on and on. I found this one probably 10 or more years ago, and through all the quotes I have just a mouse-click away, I remember this one and try to apply its meaning in my daily life more than any other.
That's why it's important to me.
PS: The Kenya thing is a joke for the political humor-impaired........kinda.
