Twin Damascus Dogbones/ Birdseye African Blackwood- Walrus

Another bone for the cupboard;) A tasty piece for sure...makes me growl to look at it. Is this the one you were working on that you had at Little Rock.

Never been a big fan of dogbone handles, but- those are just excellent, John! I like the blackwood one best but they are a very nice pair.

Wow. That is a fantastic set.

I can't be the only one thinking this........any real close ups of the birds eye blackwood?

I am intrigued!

Very cool John The song ebony and ivory comes to mind but I know it's black wood.

I can't remember ever seeing a John White knife that didn't make me say "Wow" but I do believe that you are at your best with a dogbone. It's almost become a signature piece for you.

I will echo others in that the contrast of the blackwood with the silver makes it my favorite of the two.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Each time I start doming the pins on one of these, I say, "Never again," but when it's finished I'm all grins again.

Bigfatty wondered about the feel in hand, and Pootsythesamurai wanted to see the "Birdseye" close-up.

Before the pins go on, the handle feels all angular and sharp, but after those big domed pins ( and the escutcheon) go on, they fill the hand, and the Dogbone handle becomes especially comfortable. I was surprised myself when I made the first one how good the finished handle actually feels.

Here's a close-up of the "birdseye" wood before the pins go in. You should be able to see the "spots" now. After the wood is oiled and all the hardware is in place, you'll have to turn the handle in the light, but WE know it's there!
