twist carbine barrel

Wow, that is a lot of twisting!

I can't wait to see that piece. :)

Hey Bruce:

Those pics of you and Harry sure look good. I'm sure that will be one awesome piece when you get finished. I'm looking forward to seeing it as you build it.

Hope Harry does post some pics of his knife projects. The ones I've seen sure were impressive. He does have a knack for some fine work. I'm sure alot has to do with your awesome coaching though.

Keep up the good work and am looking forward to our next visit.

Just got off the phone with a great barrel maker. He has no qualms about drilling out this bad boy to a smooth .58 calibur. Whoo Hoo a big bore! Should help lighten it up too. I wont need the liner I just ordered. Could save it for the next project.

Thanks for all your connections guys, I love this forum!:)

Hey Bruce, why did you decide to just twist it and then drill out the center as opposed to wrapping aorund a mandrel? I am just nosey and curious.

But I use the same process when making my damascus pens. Go solid and then drill it out. Just makes alot of waste. I think you should perfect the wrap around a mandrel method and then tell me how to do it. HeHeHe  ;)

Looks great by the way, as does all of your stuff, can't wait to see it finished.

Sean I have given the mandrel method allot of thought and decided I am not ready. The "smiths of old" were real masters at that method. I will make a smaller one that way to see if I can do it someday but for now Im playing it safe. It was made in a cannister measuring 3"x3"x6" containing 1084/15n20/203E/1018powder welded and drawn out to 29" before twisting.

It is just like your pens but bigger and shoots a .58" lead ball
