Well it is finally over.

I printed out each entrant’s name (three for each person who ordered) tossed them in a hat and had my wife draw the names. She drew a name for each prize; starting with the Condor, then the Marttiini and finally the $50 gift certificate toward a JK knife.

The winner of the Condor bushcraft knife is: jds1

The winner of the Marttiini MN15 is: outdoorsfan

The winner of the $50 discount on a JK knife is: Ossa1970

I will mail John the $50 tomorrow – he’ll apply that to the knife Ossa1970 has ordered.

I’ll need the other two winners to contact me via email. You can email me through BF. Please mention the contest and be sure to include your mailing address. I will ship your prize via the USPS.

My wife and I are leaving on Saturday (vacation) for one week. If I haven’t received your address by Thursday night, you will probably have to wait until we get back home. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.

Thanks to everyone for playing and Congratulations to the winners!

Up for grabs are two knives.

The first knife is a Condor Bushcraft (5 inch) knife. I bought it new, but the knife has seen use and has been sharpened (it was quite dull when I received it). The knife (and sheath) is in excellent condition.

You can see a picture of that model here: http://www.ragweedforge.com/ctk2365hc.jpg

The second knife is a Marttiini MN15 Inox Stainless steel puukko. I bought it new, but the knife has seen some use. It has been stropped after use. Both the knife and sheath are in excellent condition.

You can see a picture of that model here: http://www.bensbackwoods.com/servlet/Detail?no=220

The rules

Anybody can play.

Go to JK handmade knifes and find the model of knife you’d order (or design your own style of knife that you’d order from JK handmade knives). You can find his site here: http://jkhandmadeknives.com/

Make a post (in this thread) telling us which model you’d order, which options you’d choose on that model, and how you’d use such a knife. Tell us why you chose the model you chose – was it looks, purpose, or something else? The more detail, the better.

If you’d have JK handmade knives make a knife that you designed, please tell us about the knife you’d design (pictures of your drawings would be fantastic). Again, please tell us the options you’d choose, and how you’d use your knife. The more detail, the better.

Here’s the twist

There could be as many as 3 winners, or 1 winner could win all 3 prizes.

Those of you who were paying attention are probably asking yourselves how I’m going to split one of the knives (or you’re wondering if I can count).

I’m glad you noticed.

The third prize is a $50 discount on an order from JK handmade knives (between now and October 19, 2011). It doesn’t matter which knife you order; it can even be a knife of your own design.

Those of you who place an order with JK handmade knives (between now and October 19, 2011) should mention that in your post.

Another twist

Each entry will count as 1 submission.

Only 1 entry per person (without ordering a knife from JK handmade knives)

Each verified order (from JK handmade knives) will count as 3 submissions.

You can submit 3 more entries with each knife you order (from JK handmade knives).

The $50 discount will be rewarded to someone who actually orders a knife from JK handmade knives.

The contest will end on October 19, 2011 – giving people plenty of time to order their knives from JK handmade knives. If you post an entry prior to my ending the contest – you’re in.

How the winner will be decided

I’ll do it the old fashioned way: names in a hat. I’ll have someone pull a name out of the hat for each prize.

Each entry will have one name in the hat.

Each verified order – again, mention the fact that you’ve ordered a knife, between now and October 19, 2011, in your post – will have three names in the hat.

The $50 discount will be drawn from verified orders only. I will send JK handmade knives the $50 so he can apply it toward your knife.

Why am I doing this?

John (JK handmade knives) is a great guy. He went out of his way to help me (and my neighbor’s son) when he clearly didn’t have to. His customer service is top notch and his knives are even better.

I’d like to repay John for his kindness by doing my best to introduce people to a great guy who just so happens to make fantastic knives.

Hi Mike -

Awesome contest, and a very nice thing for you to do!

Here are pictures of the Combat Tomahawk which John and I are working out the details.

I will be taking this cutout up to John this weekend to discuss the final details. This was a result of John's initial idea of making a "meaner" hatchet/tomahawk. I envisioned something that was a little different, and that is what I tried to make in the cutout below.

I wanted a smaller head, with the "hooked" cutting end, a sharpened point on top with swedges, and a small chisel ground secondary tool.

The handle will be drilled out and have black G10 with three or four hollow pins. We will also do some sort of liner treatment as well.

Please excuse my lack of skill at drawing up a design, but that is one of the joys of working with John - I am sure he will make a silk purse out of this sow's ear. :o

I intend this for around-the-house duty, last ditch self defense, light chopping and piercing duties. This project just sounded fun, and I enjoy seeing everyone else's great designs come to life, I thought it was time to have one of my own.

**EDIT** A Picture of my DBH completed! Awesome chopper here!

Awesome. I look forward to seeing pictures once it is done. Please be sure to mention that you've ordered the Combat Tomahawk (once you have) so I can mark you down for 3 entries in the contest.

Here's my October order from John.

I love the looks and the usability of the Canadian Belt knife - it just seems to work extremely well for my needs and I find the looks to be very pleasing as well. My one area of slight complaint is the handle; I like the looks but would prefer something that is slightly more robust.

With that in mind, I contacted John about making his version of such a design – with a beefier handle. I can’t draw worth a darn, so I explained what it was that I am looking for and am looking forward (anxiously) to the final product.

I want the knife to be a good slicer, so I ordered it in 1/8 stock with John’s usual grind (in O1). The handles will be Ebony since I love dark wood handles and I’m having John make me a leather sheath.

I’ll use the knife in my typical manner – mostly for carving wood, daily cutting tasks, and an object of worship (on my part).

I tend to go for simple designs that work extremely well, but I like it when they are visually appealing as well. To me, John’s version will be my version of the ultimate knife.

This does not count as an entry into the contest. I consider it a win on my part, just by receiving the knife.

What a great giveaway and such a great lineup of knives it's hard to pick one.

i would go with the camp & trail with ironwwod scales a lanyard hole, thumb serrations, solid pins, and red liners.

The reason I picked that style is becuase it would make a great bushcraft knife and is the length I like.

I'm sure you'd love it. I just got a couple of Camp & Trail knives from John (one is the HD) and have been busy giving them a workout. I'll be posting a review of them in a week or so, but suffice to say I love em.

I can`t believe nobody else wants a chance to win a knife or $50 off on a JK!

OK, I'll play......

If I was going to order something today, I would go with the EDC Kephart that John made a while back. I'd do either Orange G10 (to match my standard size and my son's mini) or possibly burl. I think I would pair that up with a kydex sheath and maybe even a second leather pocket sheath. I would use the knife as a true EDC blade, a daily companion that would handle everthing from box cutting to bagels and everything in between. Like they say, the best survival knife is the one you have with you and it's comforting to know that a JK will handle whatever you throw at it and come back for more.

Cool contest Tahts-a-dats-ago

Thanks!

Count me in!I have a Kephart on order to match my Belt Hawk.
Even though I didn't order them together John still quoted me the package price for the Kephart!
He didn't have to & I didn't expect it,but he did. You da man John.
I have several bush type blades, but no Kepharts & by what I've read here & over at W&SS,John makes a pretty nice version.
Can't wait to cut something with it.
I should get it in time for Deer & Elk seasons up here too!
Thanks for the chance Tahts-a-dats-ago.

Let me start by saying I love John's work. His Kepharts are the best. I have three of John's knives now 2 HD Kephart's and a bushcrafter. I have four on order now although one is slated for a friend at work.
I do plan on ordering a few more.

Then next one will be a basic Nessmuk to match my basic Kephart that's on order, nothing fancy just a
great tool at a great price. My other choice would be the Scout Jr. In black Mircata with a 5 in HD blade, with hollow brass pins and a lanyard hole for work. Although my department does not have a SWAT team we are required to respond to some things where you cannot wait for the county to get there. The Scout is the perfect knife for those instances, it's got a good size blade for cutting through larger objects and with a HD 3/16" blade it won't fail. The handle shape is better suited for that than the basic Kephat handle.

I do see a Hawk or Nessmuk hatchet in my future to match my Kephart or Nessy. The Early Hunter modle has also caught my eye for the future. Is this a hobby or a disorder? Don't ask my wife she has her own thoughts on that.

Keep up the good work John!!!!

on 09-19-11 I ordered a Nessmuk, john can verify the order.

thanks again for the opportunity.

What I would get:

I would get an enlarge version of the "River Woods Companion"..... Why?, Because the blade and handle shape of this knife makes my eyes twinkle! This knife would be use for camping & hunting, that's why I would need it to be enlarged with a 7" blade and a 4.5" handle. That size would allow me to use the knife in just about every role. I would definitely opt for the thumb serrations and the Hollow pins. The hollow pins can come in very handy, especially when you want to make a spear! Handle material would be black micarta, I love the look of satin steel and black.

This is the knife im picturing, only much bigger and with the options I opted for.

BTW thanks for this great opportunity, great way of showing your appreciation!

Here is what the guy who bought the first Scout Jr. I ever made said about. He is on a S.W.A.T. team, and in the military. He posted this on my website:

I just returned from SERE School. I used this knife throughout the survival section of the course and the knife performed great. I used the knife for everything; from splitting wood for fire to cleaning game. I had a diamond sharpening tool and all I had to do was retouch the blade on the diamond stone and the knife was ready to skin anything. I would recommend any of John's products to anyone that needs a real knife for survival. These knives are made very strong and take a serious beating.

Wow. Tough choice. I would say Scout Jr. as a survival blade. While my bushcraft blades (Condor Bushlore, Mora 2080 Triflex) are not what you would call "high-end", they serve their purpose effectively, so I don't necessarily need another bushcraft knife. I do not have what I would consider to be a survival knife. The review Erod didn't hurt :-) I like the black micarta handle scales with solid pins and lanyard hole, and the gimping on the spine.

I saw that when I signed up on the web site, and that was one of the things that convinced me on the Scout. In the past I have always relied on a large folder, like the one I carry now, the Extrema Ratio MPC, but I always have to have it in my pocket. The Scout will relieve one of my pockets from the burden and it's will be easier to use and stronger.

Great giveaway!
If I ordered one of John's knives, I would choose a Hudson Bay in 3/16 with tan micarta, black liners, solid pins, thumb serrations, and a lanyard hole.
I would use it to chop and baton firewood.

Thanks for the chance,

Erdbeereis

I have won far too much on this forum and for that reason I'm staying out of contests.
Thank you for your generosity just the same.
By the way, this JK Rule #9 is as close to perfect as you can ask for. Just a thought for the winner to ponder.

Well right now I have on order a Belt Hawk. I have quite a few that I want to get one day, but that's the one in my near future. I've played with thoughts of different options on it, but I believe I am just going to get the basic version. I am going with the oak handle scales unless John can do orange g10 grips on it to match my Kephart and Knatchet. I plan on using the hawk as a lightweight chopper for when I go hunting, hiking and for a BOB blade. I like to have some type of hatchet or axe with me when in the brush so this will be a great option for me to have. I have been looking for a good hatchet for my BOB and with the full tang this will be perfect as it's just about indestructible. What I really like about the Hawk is the nice clean look, the unique factor, and that it should be a great chopper in a smaller lightweight package.
