Twisting Damascus

Anybody make a jig or simple hand powered machine to twist bars of Damascus? If so pics or description would be great.

Pipe wrench with a handle welded on the other side so you can twist with both hands.

Or
A power Rigid pipe threading machine used to twist.

Or

a Hebo machine.

About 4:15 in he shows a simple device for twisting damascus bars. The only thing I'd do differently would be to forge the bars into an octagon shape first. Jerry Rados used almost the same set-up when he demonstrated at Batson's last spring.

GHEzell, thanks so much for the youtube video. I copied the twisting Damascus bar device idea and just got through building one out of some scrap I had in my shop. I tried it out on a square mild steel bar, and it works great. This will be a big help next time I make some Damascus.

Keep an eye out on Craigslist for pipe threaders. I found an old Rigid 200. It works great for twisting. Especially the big stuff.

Look into Manuel's work... he does some of the best twisted composite steel out there, IMHO.
