This is a true heavy use folder. It has spent 20 years being used for everything from batoning firewood to cutting wiener sticks to cleaning trout to field dressing elk. 5" of flat ground Carbon 5 sweetness and just 5 oz to boot! It's a modern version of the age old Opinel design but with even more utility built in with synthetic handle. I bought it for $10 on closeout, the best knife deal I ever made!

I like it. They are going for a considerable amount more now. I've been looking for one.

That's awesome. It doesn't even show it's age.

Two reasons for that. First, I take care of my stuff with regular cleaning and oiling. Second, it came with this heavy duty pouch which rides inside my backpack or bag.

Good luck with that! One of the things I like about it is that, at $10, I don't have to worry about breaking or losing it. If they're becoming collectible and hard to come by I guess I'll have to be a bit more careful.

I have one, too, and you couldn't pay me enough (well, yeah you could) to part with it. It takes an Opinel and refines it just right. Still, I love me my Opinels. More organic feeling, I guess.

I've never owned an Opinel! Guess I'll have to remedy that. We have a gun/knife show coming up next month and someone's bound to have one or a dozen on display.

Nice, I keep my eye out for those too. About how thick is the blade stock?

Bladestock is .125" and it's flat ground to the spine, stays full width about half way down the length of the blade.

Good idea. A couple years ago you could look on the bay and find 5 or 6 of them starting around $50 or so. Nowadays you're lucky to see one every once in a while, and they've become a good bit pricier. There's been quite a bit of interest in seeing these knives reintroduced, but who knows whether CS will do so. I'd sure like to see 'em come back.

If they did it would be in some alphabet steel and made offshore. It would be great if they could reintroduce as close to the original as possible with nice carbon steel and made in the US.

I received the large Tanto with coated blade as a filler knife in a trade, so it was basicly free, as I didn't ask for it. It has been a great knife to keep in the glove box (sans sheath). I've used it on fossil digs with my kids, used it to chip out ice from my wheel-wells during an ice storm, trimmed branches on my wild rose bush, cut flowers for my wife along the road, and other more mundane things. When I plan on going out into the woods, it rides in the sheath.

I actually use the sheath for other items, as it's so large. It fits my Cuda Maxx 5.5, my Microtech Tachyon II, and my Gerber Combat Folder 15yr anniversary knife.

The coating on the blade keeps it nice and healthy looking, and the Carbon V blade takes a nice edge, though I keep it quite obtuse on the angle.

This knife probably gets more use than most of my others, as it's used regularly, while the other ones go through rotation, and with 50+ knives, that spreads the use around quite thinly.

Probably Taiwan manufacture, but I think they could use SK-5 or O1 for the steel.

I have the large clip-point, and as much as I dislike CS it really is a great, dependable knife. It has dressed a lot of deer at camp, cut trail markers and generally been worked hard on the farm.

I'd buy another (at a reasonable price) in a minute.

I have one, do all of these have a small amount of side to side play with the enclosed pivot and plastic handle? I don't see any washers.

I have one, they are awesome blades. Not to hijack the thread but has anybody disassembled one? I picked mine up at a flea market for basically nothing, but it's almost impossible to lock/unlock by hand.

I have a small clip point and it is a phenomenal knife! .....thanks Rolf!!!

But that large leaf is a beauty!!!!

They tend to be stiff when new and loosen up slightly with use. It evidently sacrifices ease and speed for solidity when it's open and locked.
