The etched finish on these blades is very tough. A wire wheel on the buffer will remove stains, rust, etc. and not harm the finish.

What is a patch knife?

A patch is a piece of cloth used in the loading of black powder rifles. You could buy pre-cut strips however, the traditional loading method is to carry a strip of cloth in your shooting bag, load your powder, place the ball atop the cloth and seat the ball just below the muzzle crown, then cut off the remaining cloth with a sharp patch knife.
