All sold, thank you

This is a heavy duty combat knife designed as a stabbing weapon and built to tolerate extremely rough use in demanding environments.

The handle is ergonomically designed for a standard forward, reverse, saber and pinch grips for an average to relatively large hand. The tang is internally skeletonized. The scales are 3D sculpted CNC machined canvas micarta. The blade is made of ¼” Latrobe A2 steel with a heat treat that has been optimized to maximize strength and toughness. The blade has a swedge grind that creates distal taper and deep fullers that, together with the skeletonized tang, create a relatively light weight package (11.7 oz) that is supremely well balanced with thoughtful and deliberate distribution of mass that gives it a surprisingly light and lively feel in the hand without sacrificing tip strength.

The steel, Latrobe A2, is a high quality domestically produced high carbon tool steel (not a stainless steel) with high impact and torsional toughness. It also exhibits good edge stability and edge retention which make it a good choice for rough use. In this application it will tolerate abuse such as aggressive prying, punching holes in sheetmetal, cutting iron wire and even chopping through cinderblock. Being a 5% chromium steel it is not stainless, but has better corrosion resistance than something like 1095.

Specs:
Latrobe A2 steel, tested 59 HRC, .250” thick at ricasso
Total length 12.75”
Edge length 7.5”
Weight 11.7 oz
Extra grippy 3D machined canvas micarta scales
Black oxide treated 18-8 stainless steel fasteners

Spec Ops Combat Master sheath can be hung from a belt, mounted to all duty belts, is M.O.L.L.E. compatible and jump certified.

There are two knives in this sale.

Rather than just take my word for it I made a video to illustrate the unusual durability of this knife:

The first fighter in an ACU sheath is “field grade”, “as machined” (with visible tool marks) and dark stonewashed. It has black micarta scales machined in a scalloped pattern. $240 sold

The second fighter in a black sheath was stonewashed to remove heat treat color from the fuller and then ground on the primary bevel, flats and clip. It has brown micarta scales machined in a diamond quilt pattern. $285 sold

Shipping in the USA is $5.

If you want a fighter without a sheath you can deduct $40 from the price.

These knives are unusual because they are completely machined, not ground. I do this in my shop on industrial CNC machine tools. A WIP thread documenting their construction can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1048443

I take paypal, cash, check or MO.

Thanks for looking,
Nathan

Nathan, I am impressed with your torture test. I've always liked the design of your blades and assumed they were probably as good as they looked but this is an irrefutable demo. I'm sorry I missed one of these.

Would there be a chance we might see a "poor mans" version of this Nathan? Minimal polishing (200ish grit or only heat treat scale removed) and very plain micarta with kydex! I love these versions but a stripped down beater would be so cool!

From time to time I do make fancy dressed up weapons that aren't intended for real use. A great example: http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/...st/Integral_dagger_092311/Carothersdagger.jpg

However the "field grade" is a user grade fighter that is intended for real abuse. It is "as machined" with visible tool marks. I make safe queens, but these aren't queens. I appreciate your interest, but I don't plan to do any that are stripped down beaters.

Thanks,
Nathan

I received the "field grade, as machined" knife today. It is perfect in my opinion. Fit and finish are excellent. The dark stonewashed finish just really goes well with, and enhances, the shape, contours, and profile of this knife - and contrasts nicely with the hair shaving sharp polished edge. The "as machined" finish is more smooth and "cleaner" than a number of belt finished blades I have. The handle fits my hand very well and is most comfortable. To me, the idea, concept, and execution of this knife is just perfect, perfect, perfect....I apologize, I get a bit excited when something clicks for me. Great sheath also. You've done very well Nathan. Mike

I received the collector grade in the mail a couple of days ago and... yah pretty much what you wrote, is all true.
It's perfect. It is a very impressive tool. I showed it off to some of the guys this weekend. Everybody I've showed it to, their eyes light up and a big "Wow!" is the first thing out of their mouth, followed by "That's nice."

I've got the field grade on my Buy Soon list.

Thanks Nathan.
