Two Barlows

Nice Barlows. After ordering a Christmas Trapper (and really liking the idea of a carrying a seasonal knife), I thought it would be neat to pick up a knife for Easter. Since, I'd also been wanting a Barlow for quite a while, when I stumbled onto a Case Easter Barlow on Ebay, I couldn't resist. Didn't really get a great deal on it, but $34.99, + $6.95 shipping didn't seem too bad for what looks like a nice knife. Anyone happen to know what the handle material is on this knife? I couldn't find any info on the web. The auction had it listed like this...

"Not sure of actual handle material Case pattern # is 62009 1/2 SS

6 = Jigged Bone (Bone Stag), Imitation Jigged Bone (Delrin), or laminated wood"

I know it's not wood, but I can't tell from the picture if it's bone or Delrin?

I like that "Three Cross" motif on the bolster very much.

Thanks, that's what I liked about it also. There is a 2009 Case Easter knife, that has the same motif on the scales, but I liked the engraved bolster.

I didn't answer about the handle material sooner because I just wasn't sure and I hoped one of our Case experts would answer first, but as that hasn't happened I looked it up at the "Case College" and found that the "6" in the model number does indeed stand for bone handles.

More info on handle material numbers (and Case Knives in general) can be found here... http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/handle_materials/

And please post more pics when it arrives.

Thanks very much for the info, and link. I was hoping it was bone, but I'd be okay with Delrin too. I'm going to check out the link right now. I will post some pics when the knife arrives.

I couldn't write a review to save my life, I am a man of few words and others have said plenty already. Suffice to say the knife is pretty dang close to perfect.

However I CAN post some more pics... :)

I like it. :D

Incoming.....!!!

I had my eye on this one before your posting.
But after your photos, I knew that this was worth while.

It will take time to get here...

Forgive my asking, but has the top portion on the One-hand man been altered? Usually this section is a curve, or crescent shape. As it is, I can't see how it would be opened, via one hand. There is nothing to catch the blade on.

I have had several queen knives over the years that the heat treat had to be off because i just could not get them sharp. The Burke barlow seems to do a fine job. I have a buddy that bought one that lives down the road. I sharpened it for him and he carried for a couple of weeks and the other day he called me for some help with his livestock. I watched him cut 25 head and ear-notch them also. After we were done i stroped his knive and it started cutting hair. This is a grate knife. I think i will buy a second one and give to my grandfather.

It hasn't been altered and despite the lack of a hook it opens easily one jeans.
