It's cold today, sleet and freezing rain, so what better to do than a little computer work? I've got two knives available for you today, both big.
The coffin handle from my previous post didn't sell. The 5 1/4″ blade is hand satin finished 1080 steel at RC 60 with drawn swedges. The guard and pins are 416 stainless steel. The handle is African blackwood with a red/black/red G10 frame. Overall length is 10 1/4″. Price is reduced to $SOLD.
Custom sheath by Jack Andress.
The next knife is a little different for me. It would make a good camp knife, small fighter, small pig sticker, or soldier carry. The steel is Cru-wear, a high vanadium tool steel. http://www.crucible.com/eselector/prodbyapp/plastics/cruwearp.html
I got this piece of steel from the estate of Josh Amerine, a knifemaker in Sweetwater, TX. This stuff is REALLY wear resistant, and was quite a bear to sand. Even though I spent three or four times as much time finishing out this blade as usual, I was unable to get all the heat treat discoloration off of the blade. The finish pattern is clean, but there's discoloration underneath. Performance is not affected. The knife is 11 3/4" long with a 6 inch blade at 62 Rockwell. Handle is contoured blue and black canvas micarta with 1/4" brass pins and a tapered tang. Tooled sheath. Price is $300.
Back side
Front side
In hand
tapered tang
Sheath.
Thanks,
Jason
