I received my my 18'' Chainpuri from the DOTD a few days ago in the mail this afternoon. It is a beautiful piece and a pleasure to swing - WELL worth the price. Thanks Yangdu!

Chances of getting one without the Nepal engraving will be few.

Then I consider myself twice as lucky for getting the one earlier this week.

It's not the same. Yours is inlaid Dhankute style. The other is Carved.
Many times the inlaid Dhankute style will also come with "Nepal" in brass decoration.

Thats some beautiful wood and carvings! They would be at the top of my collection for sure! I kinda like the "Nepal" carved on them. Just me but I know Aunti knows what shes doing and had them picked from some good Kamis.

Steely!!! You cant use the F word on these forums man:eek: Well unless you got a picture of one maybe:D

I'd love to have a bunch of them little crossed khukri pins in the middle of that sheath. I'd inlay em in everyone of my pistol handles. Probably inlay em in my IBBB handles and use em for a pattern to embroider em in my skivvy shorts.

Maybe a tattoo although I hate needles and most tattoo artist. Well hate might be a little strong for the artist, but not the little pokey things.

i agree that the 'nepal' makes them look like a tourist soft 'display' model. careful use of a dremel and some finishing oil would take care of it. if they must, they should use Devanagari script which would appear as a decoration to us westerners. the use of western letters is a bit tacky.

bawanna, would you want your tattoo artist to sign it & add his location name at the bottom of your tattoo?

devangari definitely has a very very pleasing asthetic for me , agreed totally kronk, but also see karda's and ndogs way, as I sometimes dont mind the NEPAL but on others i really like to have it "no words" that I can read anyway, gives it a exotic look

my finest khukuri from HI has nepal on the sheath, and I dont mind at all ( my dhankuta fancy by bura)

The Nepal doesn't bother me at all for some reason, I don't have one in person YET, keep getting grabbed before I can sink my teeth but I don't mind it in the pictures.

The Tattoo artist can sign his work as long as he puts a UB on one side of it too. Whats a few more needle pokes ya know?

I am kind of partial to that one snowwolf got. I like that sheath alot. Stylish. Be a good dress up Sunday go to meeting type rig.

Gentlemen, you don't seem to understand.
These are souvenirs of Nepal. They are high quality fair trade display items.
Not all souvenir khukuri are poorly made, soft bladed items. Some are very nice.
They are not made by HI, but by Kami of the Chainpur region. HI has no control over how they are marked.
They are hand selected by the shop for offering here. They are warranted for manufacturing defects only.

I knew all that, I still don't mind the Nepal on it and I still want a UB if I ever get a tattoo. And I still dig the sheath with the inlays, don't care who made them.
Probably one reason I didn't try harder to get one, not a true HI product but a good one none the less.

Im kinda fond of the way they did them inlays also! I understand they are display and if you plan to display Khukris it doesnt hurt to remove all doubt to the world where your collection comes from:thumbup: Much the same reason I like having the Kami marks on the blade. Devanagari would be sweet but most westerners would know what it says anyway! I like your tatoo idea BTW!

I did a little horse trading with Auntie and got one of these Chainpuri khuks.

Here it is next to my klvuk.

It's about the same length and thickness as the the klvuk but the blade is less wide obviously. It's much, much more top heavy though. It actually feels heavier in the hand than the klvuk! Here's a spine comparison.

Pretty much the same thickness. The tang is rat tail and it looks smaller than the klvuk's.

The fit and finish is very nice. It's nicer than the klvuk obviously but it doesn't come near the fluid beauty of my rajkumar bhojpuri. The sheath doesn't have a belt loop on the back but it does have a bracket for hanging on the wall.

It is quite a nice hilt. The blade's nicely decorated too. I'm tempted to take it outside and see how it holds up to use. It's so top heavy it must chop like a beast. It feels sturdy enough.
