Hi Guys,
My daughter (14) and neice (11) just finished these two great knives tonight. They are both O-1 tool steel with sculpted black and maroon grips and kydex sheaths.

I gave them each a "kit" this Christmas. It consisted of the rough ground blade (not heat treated) , roughed out scales (no holes), length of pin material, kydex material (rough cut to size), and belt attachment. I also included a pair of safety glasses, ear plugs, work gloves and dust mask in each kit. We had a blast making these the last two days. They did great, and really learned alot. They did 99% of the work themselves, including heat treating. They both chose a jewled finish for their knives and applied it themselves! We went real slow and I explained each step of the knife's construction in detail. I never lost their attention once. I was really impressed with their attitudes and how fast they caught on!
Thanks for looking.
Scott

Thanks Guys,
The girls got as much of a kick outa posting their pics here as they did making the knives. They feel like real knifemakers now that their knives are "on the internet!"

My daughter just asked if I'd hire her this summer to help out around the shop. She seems serious so we're gonna give it a try. It sure is nice to see the video game generation show a interest in something other than those GD video games, and looking at that television. I'm most impressed with their ability to stick with the project and see it through to the end. That's not something I've seen very often until now. If you've got a kid at home, why not give it a try? You might pleasently surprised like I was!

Thanks again!
Scott

Awesome! The world needs female knifemakers!
I hope you can keep them interested!

How soon before they start taking orders? I would be proud to carry either one of those knives. Nice gift Scott, something they will always remember.

Great idea for her to work with you, better talk with Mother to get the ok?

She's ok with it. She knows I'm very safety conscious. I've worked in machine shops and power plants for over 25 years and never had a serious injury. I made the girls wear all the right protective equipment, plus my shop has a very good dust collection and air handling system, so she's in good hands. We'll start with the easy stuff and move up slowly.

The girls did a really nice job. It is great that you are getting them involved at this age. It will really give them a great sense of achievement. :D

Very cool knives and a great project to share. Can't wait to see their original designs in the future.
