Two Don Hanson III, MS Folders

Wasn't expecting this just now! Wow Caleb, Great work! I'm speechless!

The close up were scary at first, but I see no real warts on my part. Dodged a bullet there! :D

Big thanks to you and Preston!!!

Caleb,

Those are great photos of two super knives.

It looks like in addition to Mammoth Ivory that Don has some beautiful Pearl for handle material.

Oh wow that's incredible. I have NEVER seen white pearl photographed like that. Now I know its possible to get the color to show. And this thread inspired me.... now I need to send you some hansons!

Wow, those close ups.

The work held up to some pretty close scrutiny there. It's interesting to see small details in that kind of scale. It makes you look at the work in a different perspective.

Great stuff, Don. Ya held up to the 'Eye of Caleb';) His photography is awesome. I'd love to see him photograph one of your hamon pieces.:thumbup::thumbup:

I think I'll get Dan to send you the sword thing he's working on.

It's one thing to take a photograph with accurate representational properties, but quite another to convey the undercurrent of the design and materials, which you seem to be able to do intuitively.

You better get it to him quick, Lorien. He's booked up! IMO, Caleb is tops at capturing hamon. He also captures the 'mood' of the piece incredibly well. I sent him a pretty 'traditional' piece and a much more 'contemporary' one...he knocked 'em both out of the park!

Wowza!! I saw both of these folders in Little Rock, but I didn't see them quite like that! Awesome work by Don, awesome images by Caleb. Great stuff.

Caleb....If you keep that up...you'll have us working under microscopes...! ;-)

As I've mentioned before, Caleb, you capture the color, flare and depth of pearl as well or better than anyone. Great lighting, depth of field and composition, too. You put quite the challenge to makers with the close-ups. (I like the sunfish logo best, too). Great knives to demonstrate both Don's and your talents. Russ's comment above about microscopes might be closer to the truth than some folks would like. Thanks for sharing.

Before this thread goes to the second page I just have to say thank you so much, guys! Your comments and very kind words are always a source of inspiration for me so in a way, you guys make me a better photographer so thank you so much! I'm always extremely honored when a maker or collector asks me to photograph their knives, their art, it's just awesome.

Caleb, you meant a third page! And your work if the first of its kind in that it brings out things we dont see in person!

What can I say that has not been said..Amazing pieces and some great photography as well !
