Two Fox Follies have arrived

we have, Pragitam.

The problem is that they don't have (or use) scales. The weights are being sent because it's something they can put on a balance.

In other words, they just compare weights, rather than try to get actual measurements.

Thanks Dan, I missed that part of the story.
Having lived there, the use of weights and balance scales is so common place I felt it was worth the suggestion.
It does beg the question then how do they calculate the weight?
Hope you can arrange for a set of "khuk weights" for them.

Here are two scales I have. The mechanical dial one has graduations in both kgs and lbs. It goes up to 10 kgs/22 lbs, but unfortunately the resolution on the lbs scale is 2 ozs. The electronic one is operated by lithium batteries and has automatic shutoff when not used for a period of time. It goes up to at least 48 ozs and would be perfect since it reads in ozs. and its resolution is 0.1 oz. I have had these for probably 10 years. I am really only willing to give up the mechanical dial one, but if Yangdu/Pala are not leaving for Nepal for awhile I will look around tomorrow for a similar electronic model(battery operated with common batteries such as AA).

Rest assured, I did realize how stupid the idea of sending an electronic scale to Nepal was, as I was writing it. Why I continued writing? That is the part to worry about.

Seems to me there isn't a problem coming up with a scale, or the money to buy one. Problem, as stated earlier, is will they use it, break it, or just take it home?

That's why the weights are gonna be as perfect as we can get. Put the weights on one end of a bar, put the khukuri or other knife on the other end and then hang it from the center.
Instantly tells whether the object being weighed/compared is too heavy, too light, or just right.:)

Methinks the FF's coming in at the correct weight or a tad lighter are gonna absolutely ROCK!!!!:)

Here is what I got for BirGhorka. It's my contribution to Uncle Bill's memory.
They will calibrated tomorrow afternoon then sent off to Yangdu. The electronic one is good for 4.4 lbs and reads in lbs-ozs. The mechanical one is good for 5 kg or just over 10 lbs. lbs scale resolution is 1 oz.
