Interesting.

On my "warmup" Folly, the cho appears to be about 1" from where the bolster would end if it were traditional and .75" as it is now.

Satori the distance would remain the same as the trad bolster would go to the same place as the habaki bolster, the junction of blade and tang.;)

Exactly. I have far more habakis than traditionals but the distances seem to be similar.

Just got an idea for another project - use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to shorten a habaki bolster. Hey, it could work...:)

I'll try again, this will be the fourth time!!!!:(
Satori if you cut off the habaki then you have to move the whole handle forward, a lot more work than what you might think. I have one ready to put back together that I found out on.

Norm the 9/16" is from the bottom of the bolster to the back and bottom of the cho.

I have a couple of really close friends who can weld the cho up with no problem of losing any hardness or such, both are knife and gun gknuts.

Just depends on a lot of things whether a larger cho could be cut. I looked for a pic and found one I tried to post earlier but it locked up on me.
Trying this one without quotes and a minimum of images.
