Two good and blems for 6/19 -- Pix and Awesome buys

I'm really tickled with this thing. I have many favorites but this is already one of them.
The fact that it will stay sharp is a bonus, I'm not great at sharpening.

Fortunately my khuks seem to stay sharp or self sharp, rarely need attention.

I was right! Don't be so shocked, I was right once before, I think it was 1974 but I could be wrong.

Anyhow this Reti is a melon cutting machine. It's thin enough it works great. Wife had me cut up one tonight for supper, one of them little round ones, like a honey do but called something else. It was good, that's all that matters.

I think she took evidence phone pictures. I'll post them up if I can figure out how to get them from the phone to here. This technology sometimes makes me head swim.

Fingers all accounted for. All good.

What's the history of the Agni Jowla Sword? Is that a traditional fighting sword somewhere? When I do a search engine on them, I don't get many results, and the results don't point to a real history as much as fantasy games and movies. I'd be interested if I knew more about the history. Thanks!

Thanks! The story is interesting, but I'm not sure whether this sword is a sharpened sword for real combat or more of a symbolic sword. If I understand correctly, this sword was never used in combat but is more of a cultural/religious icon. Either way, the sword is interesting. The $95 price seems pretty good compared to others of this kind. If the sword isn't sharpened, I might get one for photography. Not all models can be trusted with something sharp, and if I'm shooting outdoors, law enforcement is more likely to pitch a fit if we're using a sharpened sword as a prop. If the sword isn't really sharp, I can more easily argue that it's a prop and not a weapon. On the other hand, I like real sharpened swords.

All the swords that the HI kamis make are edge-hardened, sharpened and suitable for combat. It's part of the HI culture to make blades that stand up to reasonable or even unreasonable use. An HI chopper will chop. An HI sword will "keeel," to quote the martial arts expert on the tv show, Forged In Fire.

That said, I doubt that the Agni Jowla Sword design was often used in real combat, at least with regular military. Those wavy-type blades are hard to forge and not likely to be military issue. This particular one isn't really long enough to be called a sword, or even a short-sword. Keep in mind that the 17.5" length is overall length, not blade length. In any case, it's a great price for a beautiful weapon.

As far as using it unsharpened as a photography prop, there's nothing easier than taking the edge off a sword. Even a well-hardened edge can be blunted with a file (or an ordinary stone) if you work at it. I'm not sure that will placate law enforcement, since an Agni Jowla can beat someone to death even without a sharp edge. Also, you don't want to wave it at someone even in jest, especially if that person is carrying a firearm.

Amen david. Mine is very sharp and a bit scary since it's sharp on both sides.

On the bright side, it works, I've not seen nor heard of one single Zombie since I got it.

That along with my carved mask, no bad folks at all.

Thanks, I'm not going to blunt any sword or knife. I'll have to warn models to be very careful. Most are going to be fine, but some are going to be hesitant.

I wouldn't wave anything at law enforcement. I'm just thinking in terms of how to deal with things if a police officer shows up and asks about what we are doing. In some places, any kind of "sword" is considered illegal to carry in any way. In that case, having a sharpened steel sword could mean a disturbance of the shoot. I've recently bought a couple of plastic "training" swords of various kinds that would be considered "props" instead of swords. If I wanted a model to pose with one of them, I'd have little concern of the police being able to claim that we had weapons. Someone who was intent one being a jerk might claim that we were "disturbing the peace" by having something that looked like a weapon, but most are pretty reasonable.

I should probably wait a little bit on the sword.

One more point [sic] about sharpened versus unsharpened swords/knifes. I have several vintage blades that were never sharpened, but would be easy to sharpen if I wished. Many military issue weapons were stored unsharpened in the armory. It's a lot easier to handle such blades unsharpened; after they are issued it is up to the user to sharpen them for combat. I've left them unsharpened for the same reason: easier and safer to handle. They are quite pointy, however, so the lack of a sharp edge doesn't make them safe around small children. Here are some examples.

My beautiful 21" Chitlangi!
I love it!

I just sent an e-mail on the

12 inch 10 ounce Wandering Knife by Lachhu. Lachhu repaired the horn handle. $62.

If that one is available, I'd like to get it as a knife that I could conceal in a winter coat. In reality, I'd probably only be wearing it that way when I'm outside and alone, so "concealment" is less about someone seeing me and more about having the knife in a position that won't catch on things.

I also inquired about how much I could save on shipping by adding two others to the purchase. I won't mention them until I know more. For now, I think I'm just going to get the Wandering Knife.

When it comes to addiction, I can't imagine that heroin has anything on HI knives. I'm sending a confirmation e-mail on:

18 inch 33 ounce Ang Khola by Ram Lal. Small hairline crack on guras wood handle will not travel to any where. Slight loose sheath Karda chakma and frog are missing. Great blade! $80.

17.5 inch 19 ounce Agni Jowla Sword by Kumar. Satisal wood handle. Keep the Zombie away at $95.

12 inch 10 ounce Wandering Knife by Lachhu. Lachhu repaired the horn handle. $62.

I think all of these were available as of this afternoon, and I'd like to get all three. I like the idea of a smaller, lighter knife for certain situations. I also want the big Ang Khola for situations where I need to bang on something. The Agni Jowla will probably be a photography prop, but a fancy knife could be fun to have. This should be enough for me except for making an attempt at some $35 knives in the future.

I've been a member a little over 2 months and I'm craving another fix!!
It doesn't get any better!!

My knives arrived. The zombie sword has a couple of blemishes on the blade and guard, but I assume that a little polish will fix those. The 18" Ang Kola is impressive. I'll need to work out a bit for that to be very useful, but I like having a hard hitter. The 12" Wandering Knife is gorgeous. I had some problems getting that one in and out of the sheath, but a little mineral oil seems to have fixed that problem.
