Buy a knife and crank the pivot down so that it takes two hands to open it. Once your brother receives it have him loosen it.

Spyderco has the UK Pen Knife along with a couple of other designs (non-locking).
Kershaw has several designs...Coral Creek Sheepsfoot and their hunter series, Black Gulch, Wildcat Ridge, etc., (locking and non-locking).
Once you get into traditional slip joints from Boker, Buck, Case, Queen, etc., you've got a wealth of choices with many in the under $50 category.
