Two handed locking knife?

Buck 110, buck 112, bucklite Max series ( available with or without thumb studs ) case mako, case copperlock, and then there's the opinel.
The buck 110 is the best though.

Where do you find the Bucklite Max without those wretched thumb studs?

Walmart had a Christmas tin version several years ago but that was a 1 off. Would love to find them with no stud.

Take a look at the Opinels. They require two hands to open, but the lock system works on both open and closed (if you want).

Opinels and most lock backs can be opened one handed if you known how and have practiced.

I doubt many cops would know this though.

Yes, while it's uncomfortable, fiddly and dangerous, it is possible. However, they do not lock upon opening them, but have to be locked manually. Thus making them legal to carry in Germany. Still illegal in the UK, because they lock at all.

Here's a two handed locking knife. Cold Steel Holdout I. The thumb stud can be removed.
I hope this helps :p :)

For just a nice modest knife, how about the LionSteel Opera? It's a lock back with about a 3" blade. No thumb stud or hole. I have it in stag, but it comes in different handle configurations. Simple functional elegance.

Find any modern folder with a thumb stud that is removable. Remove the thumb stud.

I guess I'm somewhat curious about the alternate option that was mentioned-- one-handed non-locking. Are there any besides friction folders?

Slipjoints don't have locks. They just have the spring, but it does not lock. Though, I don't know much about knife laws. My state is very lax about knives. And guns for that matter. Got a lot of fishing regulations though! :)

Opinel or Nontron; either one requires two hands for opening, locking, unlocking. For that matter, any repro of the Marble's Safety Bowie.

The Kabar Dozier Big Easy comes to mind. Don't care much for the knife, but I believe it was designed for places that have strict knife laws like NYC.

Cold Steel Kudu. If you leave the back spring alone it takes two hands to open. If it does get confiscated, you have only lost six bucks. Or would the 5" blade be a problem?

Opinel, Mercator, MAM etc. all have good two-hand-open locking knives. For one-handed non-locking there are fewer options, but in traditionals there's the old-fashioned "razor" pattern aka "one arm jack". Friction folders may qualify such as the Svörd Peasant Knife and Nagao Higonokami.

I don't think you can get much better than a Buck 110 from the Custom Shop, with S30V steel.

Enzo pk70 and as a slip joint and spyderco dog tag are also non locking options..
But seeing the buck above I might have to really consider getting one from the custom shop... any clue whether they ship to Germany? (I will try to find out, but just in case anybody knows)

Hi Possum,

I believe that Buck ships to the U.S. and Canada only. But it never hurts to ask.

Things can change at any time. You can contact Buck knives through their chatline on the Buck website.
