I had a knock down and drag out year in 07 and needed to take some time
off from making knives.
Four hundred knives have been made here at Bethel Ridge over the last 8 years;
but I ran out of steam in 07.
That doesn't mean I wasn't busy, I just wasn't making knives.
It was machinery that I put my mind and energy into and this is the result.
I built two blown, pid controlled, forges. One is a heat treating forge with
an argon gas muffle. The other is also blown and pid controlled and is used
in forging and damascus production.
As you can see, I have a lot of blue paint around the place
A cnc Bridgeport was part of the upgrade also.
It was too large to get inside the smithy even though I tried.
It sits outside the shop door.
I'll be firing the forges up today and they will get their first taste of knife steel for the year.
There should be some new knives coming from Bethel Ridge in November.
Fred
If you look closely you can see a used Whisper Lowboy, sitting on the floor underneath the forge on the right.
It is set up for natural gas.
This forge still has a lot of life in it.
Any knife maker or aspiring maker who is interested in this forge and can stop by the smithy to pick it up; is welcome to to do so.
No charge, just like to pass it along.
PM or e-mail me if you interested, Fred
