:eek:I heard a couple of weeks ago about two moons being visable Monday night [27th], our moon and Saturn or one of Saturn's moons. Supposed to be a once in a lifetime thing.:cool: Might be kinda cool!!! Anybody hear anything??

Yes, there is an email circulating which talks about Mars actually, and in it states that on August 28th Mars will be at its closest to Earth and will appear to the nakid eye to be as large as the moon. That email is entirely false. Mars will be at its nearest to Earth in December, and even then it will be much father then it was in 2003 (88 million kilometers vs 55 million kilometers) and in 2003 it still looked no bigger then a star-like point of light.

The same email has been circulating since 2003. It started with a real article in which the author said that mars would be at its closest on august 28 (and it was in 2003); and then added that if you look at the planet with a 100x power telescope, and look at the moon with the other eye, the two would appear to be the same size (that telescope part never made it to the email.)

Jupiter has 4 highly visible moons and a number of smaller ones. It is quite a show; and, it is for free every night. All you need is a good pair of binoculars or a small telescope. At 20x you can see it clearly, and at 50x it really comes alive.

Thanks for clearing that up! ;) My honey had it on the calendar but could'nt remember where she read it!:o I figured someone here would know the scoop!:thumbup:
 
I've been known to show off two very large moons. My backside is large enough that I'm not "mooning" people, but instead, I'm "moonings" people. It's about that time that my wife claims not to know me and gives me a disgusted look.

I know IG will want pics of that. :D He needs it for his garden cause his scarecrow just doesn't work as well anymore. :eek:
