Two new Bob Kramer kitchen knives

I came home yesterday to a box from Bob Kramer. Included was an 8" chef's knife and a 3.5" paring knife. Forged 52100 steel. I chose to upgrade to desert ironwood for the handles. Once my name came up on the list, everything went very smoothly, from the finalization of knife preferences to receiving them about 10 days later. And even better, he kept the prices exactly where they were in mid-2007. Wish I had a time machine...

As you might expect, these are very nice knives. Perfectly balanced with big, thick handles. When you first pick them up, you might think they are too big but hold them for a minute and they feel like a natural extension of your hand. I wanted to photograph them and then break them in on dinner tonight. I can comment more on their usage later. I LOVE custom knives that I can use all the time.

Those are 2 fantastic knives worthy of a Michelin chef. Are you a Michelin chef? None the less you are one lucky son of a gun. I would love to have a set by Bob but do not even have a clue how to do so in the next decade. Great get!!

Use well, Jon

Looks like brass to me, very nicely polished.

I assume they are brass. I'll confirm though. I don't mind brass at all on a knife I use. And yes I will use them and am just a home cook who loves to use well-made knives. We don't see enough custom kitchen knives on this forum IMHO.

Getting them now would be tough. But let's say if you ordered one in, say mid-2007, you'd pay about the same as you'd currently pay for a nice JS hunter.

Yep seem to be brass just wanted to know for sure.
Brass works, easy enough to clean.
Congrats.

It really does seem like they will be great knives
for daily use in the kitchen!
Great choice with the desert ironwood for handles.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

You're a lucky man. I want a 10 inch chef from Bob.

Polished brass is so amazingly pretty...

WOW is right. That is an exquisite pair of knives that will probably handle any kitchen task. That is some SWEET lookin ironwood.

I am also just someone that does some cooking and think those sizes are the MOST useful.

Congratulations!

Peter

Those are stunningly beautiful.

Very, very nice!

I am green with envy. For some time now I have wanted pretty much exactly what you have here, but never got around to pulling the trigger. I admit to having "collected" a lot of expensive knives over the year, but these knives would definitely be used in my kitchen, along side my Globes and MACs.

Alas . . . I do not think it will ever be, as Kramer does not accept new orders any more and you just never see his knives for sale in the secondary market. If you have the money, it is easy to buy a Loveless or Scagel in the secondary market, but just try to find a Kramer custom chef's knife anywhere at any price.

Enjoy them!
