Here are two knives that I just got in the mail today. U like?

First is by Rodney Rogers. Here are the specs:
Bowie 440C Mirror finish blade is 8" long and 13 3/8" overall. Desert ironwood handle w/ 416SS guard. Comes w/ leather sheath.

Next is by Ron Gaston. Here are the specs.
Skinner 440C Satin Finish blade is 3 3/4" long and 8 1/2" Overall. Sheephorn handle w/ 416SS bolsters. Comes with leather sheath.

These are both nice but I really like the Gaston. That's as close as I've seen to a Wharncliffe from Ron. I owned quite a few of Ron's knives over the years, he will be missed.

OPINION Needed

I am a collector, not user. Should I remove the lanyard off the Rogers?

Right On Dredd,I Really like the Rodney Rogers Fighter/Bowie.It's pretty Wicked looking, but if you aren't going to be using it in the field I'd take the lanyard off.Good to see you posting again here on BF's.

Thanks for the PM setting me straight on the fact that the handle is sheep horn, not mammoth tooth.

As far as the lanyard is concerned, my recommendation would be to go with whatever you like. Personally, I don't care for lanyards except on the knives I take into the bush.

If it was a decorated lanyard with a special fob or the like, I would say it is part of the package. In this case, it is the simplest of lines with a basic knot. It is nothing special and doesn't 'add' to the knife.

It's your call, but you may like it even more unencumbered.

Many Thanks.

I changed to a pic without the lanyard. I like it much better.

getting ready to send the Gaston to Mr. Bruce Shaw to put his majical touch on it, will post pics once I get it back.

The Gaston is out visiting Mr. Bruce Shaw for some engraving. Will post pics when it comes in.
