Two-pocket carry anyone? L&R how?

mbourgeois :

It is, I have the endura on the pocket and the SAK hiker in the same pocket. One is for work, the other for defense.

They both fit fine in dockers, 5.11's, dungarees, etc.

I've been carrying dual knives for a while... at least the 2 front pockets, normally add a multi and fixed. Neck carry is always on me, though not the first grab unless I want something small.

right/front is always changing. Currently it's my "new" titanium herbst(sfo 2nds sale, plain edge, discon'ed 99). Sometimes it's the CS Ti-lite, spydie cricket(have 2, 3rd is enroute), spydie alum salsa, slipjoint, crkt rollock... or my millie which is out for custom work. Salsa and millie are CE, crickets are all SE. otherwise plain edge.

left/front is the spydie endura, frn/se/ats-55... got this one for an xmas gift from a fellow forumite, and have it on me pretty much 24/7 when I'm dressed.

right/hip is the Leatherman Crunch, serrated blade.

left/hip or left/front/hori is the fixed. currently the spydie fb03 in a normark sheath. fb05 is out for a sheath, and I'm looking at getting a 3" fixed, such as the morans.

neck carry is a spyderco dragonfly, stainless/plain edge, in a normark sheath. soon to be replaced by a stainless cricket in same type of rig.

I'm fully ambi, and I enjoy it. born left, forced right(kindergarten to grade 6 or 7, even getting hit for using my left), and then when I was finally allowed to work left handed at school my right was the dominant. took my time in highschool to get the left equal. Far too funny watching ppl injure one hand, and be pretty useless b/c they can't write with the off hand.

only thing that's not fully accessable to either hand is the front pocket carry. Liner locks are easy to do, even right handed locks with left hand.

smallest carry I can do is serrated in left/front, fixed on right/hip, and neck carry. Multi sits in the car or bag if I do this minimal carry.

I thought the left pocket was for carrying my SAK choice-of-the-day.

My thoughts exactly. I carry a small regular Sebbie clipped in my right front pocket and one of my V'noxs in the left pocket. IMHO, the need for a secondary knife with a smaller blade is more frequently encountered than the need for a second defensive knife.

Just pick a knife that has a reversable clip. Many Sydies and Benchmades have this feature. Mid-locks and Axis locks work best but liner-locks can be worked left-handed w/ a little practice.

I've been carrying a knife(spyderco's) on my left side for a few years now. I'm right handed, and carry a right handed folder on my left side. I've done it for so long that it feels weird when I try to carry a left-handed folder on my left side. So for now I'll stick with my right handed SS Police on my left side. Practice with it, and it will become easy. I suggest carrying your primary knife on the left side and only use it. Good luck!!

I've found that one good folder is plenty for me, so I just have one clipped on my right rear pocket.

I've never bought into the idea of having a dedicated "emergency folder" to complement a good EDC. Seems to me that if I require a knife for a truly critical application I would be better off with one which I am familiar with from long term daily use rather than a tool that I am comparatively unfamiliar with.

RFP (Strong Side):

Benchmade 806D2 AFCK

LFP:

Victorinox Tinker SAK

I'm thinking about a Griptilian for the LFP, too.

mainly for the times when I don't want the Arclite on the left to cause a stampede. Because it's small I don't really worry about how fast I can get to it. I've never had an envelope that couldn't wait another two seconds. Usually it's a Camillus slip joint but today it's a tiny Buck lockback. But I carry for utility more than anything else. YMMV

Can you show me a pic or scan or something? I've seen jobs like this done on BM AFCKs, but it wasn't pretty!
I'd love to see how you did it and what it came out like.

I usually carry a knife in each pocket. The ones that have met with the most success have been carrying my Axis AFCK (customized with black zipties) in my left pocket, and either an Emerson P-Sark, or another AFCK right pocket. It can be uhmmm....quite dramatic when you "wave" open both knives simultaneously in a forward grip.

Also Emerson can re-drill most any handle for lefty carry for $25 as I recall, and I believe the production Karambit comes predrilled for left and right hand carry.

I actually kinda had things reversed with the P-Sark...I think it would have made an awesome left side carry with the clip moved to the other side. Another (cheaper) combo I always thought would be way cool would be a serrated Spydie Matriarck or Spyderhawk weakside with a plain edge Endura strong side.

fulloflead,

Well, I'm glad to see others that think like me... Scary isn't it? I have never liked the idea of having "just one knife." I have always been of the "more is better" school. What used to work for me at work (two pistols or two revolvers), goes for me today with at LEAST two knives... Left and right, rear pockets, usually have a brace CRKT Crawford/KASPER "tactical" folders. You never know from where a threat may materialize. Too, you may "lose" one, and desperately need another... If you don't have an "extra," you may not live to regret it... Frankly, I don't know if I'd try to use both at the same time... Probably would resort to my cane and just one at a time... The Filipino's have developed some great tactics for usage of sticks and blades...

Well, actually I've been carrying several knives for a while:
Main carry clipped to right pocket.
Swiss Army inside right pocket.
Sometimes a traditional slip joint inside left pocket.
Always a backup hidden inside waist band behind left kidney.

But, I've never had a backup that was easy and quick to get to. It would take me several seconds to reach and deploy my IWB backup. I always thought I'd keep it there in case somebody kidnapped me or something and disarmed me - that they probably wouldn't find it.

I figure if my right hand was simply busy or hanging onto something and I needed a knife, or if somebody had me by my right hand and was getting ready to use a weapon to inflict harm on me I really need a knife I can QUICKLY get to and deploy with my left hand.

I just ordered a full-size Emerson Commander. It may be too big for me to keep in my left front pocket and easily reach change but I'll probably be able to keep it in my left back pocket which I use for nothing really but could still wave it out of with the standard clip.

I think I'll send it to Emerson Knives to have tapped on the other side and put a pocket clip on BOTH sides. This way, it'll be versitile. I could, in the winter time, keep it in my inside left pocket and still wave it out. I don't know how comfortable it'll be to have a clip on both sides, but I'll try it. It may be a interesting and versitile carry that I can clip and wave from most anywhere. Anyway, that's the plan so far.

Emersons cost to darn much for quality that's less than Benchmade or even Spyderco in some cases, but they really gottcha with the "Wave". I've tried it before and even though it wasn't nearly as fast or would open reliably as my AXIS AFCK from right-pocket carry, it's pretty stress-proof for weak-hand drawing I think.

Maybe I'll use it through part of the winter and then review the knife as I'll have it with a clip on both sides. (I wonder how many people have tried that two-clip system?) Should be intersting.

I carry two spydercos, both delicas or one delica and an endura, both arranged for righ handed carry. That way either hand can get at either knife and the draw is the same for that particular hand. This is the method that is used by insightstraining and is the method that was developed by Eric Remin (sp?) way back in the day.

Unless I'm in a blade restricted area, I normally carry 2 blades. I am slightly more right handed, than left handed so I carry a SERE 2K Right Front Pocket, and a mini grip 555 (opening hole, PE) Left Front Pocket. I find it easier to use the hole opener on the mini grip left handed, and if required, I can inertia open the SERE. Both have paracord tie-ons for easy retrieval and the mini grip is small enough to not get in the way of the wallet and keys. The only other thing in the right front pocket is a Fisher Space pen. It works well enough.

This setup is more for political correctness, in the company of sheeple, the mini grip gets more use, though the SERE is my favoured blade. Though, either can act as a backup for the other ;)

Regards,

Shaun.

What kind of "work" did you do...Desperado? Tomb raiding, perhaps? It's good work if you can get it. Lately, I've become a two or three knife man just for fun. That frozen Ice Man would approve.

knifedaddy84,

I used to work in a bank, did courier work, security, worked in a very busy gun shop, and did some personal protection work. All in all, people related...

fulloflead,I'm right handed and always carry my FRN SE Endura down in my left front pocket with the clip outward. This is a holdover from when I needed a knife to prevent a dis-arm of my duty weapon.I sometimes carry a second knife,(PE Endura,Delica,SAK,etc.) in my right front pocket.I don't use the clip so I prefer FRN integral clipped models as they don't abrade my pockets as badly.Hope this helps.tom.

Many pockets = many knives, I can't count how many times I've been working, with one knife at the bench, had to leave to get parts, than needed to open boxes and bags to get parts, had some one borror a knife to cut up boxes, than I needed one to cut my lunch up, and left one in my locker, or fell outa my pocket in the car. I carry at least 6 knives at one time, 7-9 as an average.

I'm never without a blade and everyone knows they can depend on that, but especially, I know I can depend on that.

Right now in my left weak side is a Gerber SL 3.25, or a BM AFCK, and tucked in the bottom you can usually find a Spyderco Mini Dyad, or a Gerber Silver Knight.

So many knives, so few pockets, gotta love them Cargo Pants.
