Two Schtick Bow Drill

Thanks Iz. I can't recall the difference between single hole and through hole. Can you give a brief descriptor?

Also to add, my through hole vid. is now posted and linked to the first post in this thread.

Ken,
The single hole is where you just drill a hole (not all the way through) with no notch.
You get the hold hot then brush your dust (on the top of the board) into the hole. The ember forms in the hole. I can't remember for sure but I don't think I've ever gotten this one to work.

p.s. In response to your vid, I'm guessing that the through hole method is used when you don't have a knife to make the notch. You can start the drill with a rock on both sides. I think it's the easiest of the notchless methods except for the two stick...which requires more cordage than what you use on your bow.

That sounds pretty intimidating Iz. Can it involve an active Dakota pit??? :D

Lol. It sucks, no doubt about it.
IIrc, Mors says it's one of the more reliable methods.
He's got some serious woods mojo though.:D

Total fail on the one hole method, which I've already renamed the A-hole method. I will try again later in the week as my shoulder is now sore and my spindle has been whittled down to a tiny thing.....

I think I'm going to change my name to DOC-FRANKENSTEIN! I'VE CREATED A MONSTER!!!!! :D

Good job, Ken!

Lol, that's the perfect name for it!:D
So very true, man.

Okay, my buddy RangerJoe first got the one hole method but he was using a pithy stick. He gave me a piece of his weedy spindle and I was able to replicate. I'd like to try this with some aged mullein which I'll harvest probably next week (it seems to be nicely weathered now). Joe could not identify the spindle he gave me. He just indicated that it wasn't mullein and it wasn't teasil. Having not seen the plant he harvested from I'm not sure what it is at all.

Video is added to the bottom of the first post.
