Here's a couple of very fine khukuris that Sher made before he left to go back to his village and farm for Dasein. He had gotten his Dasein bonus and I guess wanted to make a couple of khukuris that reflected his gratitude for the bonus. Excellent craftmanship. Please excuse the lighting in the pix. It's a nasty, cold rainy day here in Reno so I had to take the pix on the kitchen floor and use standard indoor lighting. Makes the blades look like they are made of gold but, perhaps somewhat sadly, they are steel -- good old MB springs.

Let's take the Jange. 20inches and two pounds of excellence. Fit and finish are perfect. Blade is hardened to 60Rc and Sher ran the hardness longer length than standard, covers the chopping area and then some. Sher and Kumar make the best handles of any kami at BirGorkha and this one is no exception. Very well done and from some kind of "USA wood" that I can't identify. It shows freckles as the light strikes it from certain angles and the grain changes with light angle also -- beautiful stuff.

I guess Sher told the village sarki to make a scabbard befitting the khukuri and he did. Fine work on the scabbard. Karda and chakma are very well made and show the signs of extra effort.

I'm in a good mood this evening so I'll send this Jange away for $125 and guarantee that it's new owner is going to be a very happy camper.

Now to the M43 (almost typed in Mre again!). It's 17.5 inches and almost two pounds and shows what a top notch motivated kami can do. It shows all the care and expertise that we see on the Jange and same excellent and somewhat oversized hardening. They had the handle taped with a little note that said, "USA wood" but it looks like the ratha chandan to me but what do I know. Some woodchuck will identify it properly.

The scabbard is very nicely done but not quite as good as the Jange scabbard. Karda and chakma the same -- better than you'll see coming out of Nepal these days but not quite as good as the Jange set.

The good mood continues so I'll send this exceptional M43 to it's new owner for $125.

One thing is certain. There are no nailed on buttcaps on these two.

Email me and I'll ship tomorrow.

UB THAT is an under statement. Beautiful is right!
AND the Price is a STEAL.

But I learned my lesson! 20" 2 lb just too big for me. Think you told me long ago, 18" is about my limit. I found that to be true.

YOU will make someone VERY HAPPY tonight!
I LOVE that wood grain.

Sent UB an email on the Jange. Looks kinda like a pointy WWII, my favorites :D. I was delayed figuring out how to pay, I hadn't updated my pre-made emails here at home. ;)

P.s. Uncle, good to see you feeling better, at least enough to write a good sales pitch!!

P.P.S. screw the stolen car, a khuk will help me forget it... ;)

Ok, mPisi.....you owe us a comparison to the YCS....!

Love those lil' fullers on that Jange....wow....

AAAARRRRRRRRRGHH!!!!!

Been waiting on a deal for another car as soon as a mechanic finishes with it. For about two months now. Then I put a Colt I had never heard of before on layaway ( I missed out on a S&W 520 - N frame M&P in 357 by not putting money down on it right then! That won't happen to me again!!! ) three weeks back.

I don't even want one of the above khuks, but for the last couple of months I've been on tenterhooks that a really special khuk doesn't come up while I'm impecunious.

I've got money socked away in the bank for the car - but won't know 'til the mechanic finishes up just how much it'll cost. Oh well...

( Pay no attention to the gibbering idiot in the corner over there! )

   :footinmou

I'm tellin' ya, Uncle, it wouldn't have been a typo: "MRE" stands for M43withReallyExoticWood. :D

Sher has improved quite a bit from the last time I've seen his work. Uncle Bill, please convey my compliments to Sher, the next time you communicate with the shop.

Apothecary - long time no hear from you? Have you been calling Uncle in the mornings and grabbing the DOTD before he can get it onto the forum again?

( Why in his day, Harry was one of the all-time Great White sharks on this forum . )

Rusty, nope, just training a new generation of Khukuri Nutz to say and type "Mine!" in less than 10 seconds. Kidding!

Actually have been reducing my activities and concentrating on making the ones left quality experiences for your's truly. Have been stopping by BF from time to time to see what's happening on the cutting edge. ;)

Is jim clifton still around? or did he finally admit to being the "Phantom of the Khukura"! ;) :D

Yeah, Jim still pops up whenever you say fowl/foul canard ( duck ) now and then. The "Phantom" thread got locked by Spark, because he said, at something like 150 pages it brought the entire BF site to a dead stop when people clicked on it.

BTW, has anyone asked Sher if he'd mind making a gross of the famous HI Kagas Katne? ;)
Good to read you again Harry my friend!:D Hope you hang around a while!

The handle on that Jange is absolutely gorgeous! Anyone have any idea what kind of wood that is?

Jeremy
