Guyot Designs is having trouble filling orders for the standard bottles and it looks like more and more people are getting on the stainless bandwagon. Klean Kanteen has been a favorite of mine for a couple years now and it looks like they might be the manufacturer of the Bean Canteen.

Search the LL Bean website to see what I mean. Three sizes are available to suit your needs, 12 oz., 18 oz. and 27 oz. I just ordered a 27 oz.'er with some reward coupons and I'll let you know how it is once I get back from the WLC and find it in my mail.

Hope this turns some of you onto a new stainless bottle source.

The only one that would hold up to boiling is the Stainless. I've seen the painted versions peel, bubble and flake off under the heat of a campfire. STAINLESS ONLY!!!

J, I think they are made by KLEAN. Many times, a company like Bean, REI or EMS will hire a manufacturer to make their line on the same machinery. Point in fact, when I worked at EMS one of our older jackets was made by a company that makes the majority of their profit by the sale of one particular "light" model designed for the mountains. Hint Hint.

i have a Bilt stainless bottle that is looking a little ugly after dropping a couple of times, but it still holds water and works well.

i really want to get a kleenkanteen sometime soon, but they didn't have the cap style i wanted at the store i was at.

I thought the same thing bout the colors. Ive been checkin out the kleen canteens for awhile, I have yet to get one though. Been holdin out for a guyot, but if that dont pan out, I will get one of these for sure..... Thanks for the heads up man!

I've had a standing order for 3 GD bottles for months, so I was pleased today when LL Bean's print catalog came in the mail and I saw these. So I was surprised to see this thread show up. I hope they're better at filling orders than Guyot.

i have a Klean Kanteen in my kit. i love it! it works well for boiling water, or making soup. :)

the ring top cap works well for boiling! the way the cap is made, it doesn't have to be screwed down tight to support the weight of a bottle full of water. I fill up the kanteen, give the cap 1/2 a twist, put a stick through the ring, and place it in the center of the fire; 1/2 a twist on the stick and the cap is off. Repeat the process in reverse to reclaim your kanteen. :)

Good to know. After the whole scare and hubub about Nalgene bottles and BPE's, we bought several Sigg aluminum bottles at no small expense. Now I read in the last Outside magazine (or was it Nat Geo Adventurer?) that Sigg won't disclose whether their secret aluminum coating on the insides of the bottles contain BPE's or not. The article did say that stainless was the best choice.

Those wouldn't carry enough water even for my average dayhike. They look cool though:thumbup:

Would much rather carry a platypus or hydration sack and then just use my SS drinking cup to boil stuff in

I've got the stainless guyot and find that I prefer some kind of lightweight method to carry the water (like the platypus) and then my cup and/or pot to boil it in.

It sure looks like the Kleen Kanteen. I've found my 27oz Kleen Kanteen a little too narrow which makes it less stable on anything but incredibly flat surfaces. The paint will take an alcohol stove but will come off with anything hotter. They work, but I'm keeping my eyes open for a 40oz Kleen Kanteen or the Guyot bottles.

I can confirm that the Bean bottle is in fact the Kleen Kanteen with Bean's name on it. I stopped by the Bean store today and checked them out. They are all in stock except the unpainted, backordered till 7-21-08. Kleen Kanteen name is on it, 18/8 stainless bottle.
