how much gear do you tote?? on a typical day hike, say 6 hours average, in your neck of the woods, what is in your pack on or your belt?? what do you usually carry to 'be prepared'.

On what you expect to be a 6 hour hike? There is a saying something like if you bring bivy gear, you'll be sure to need to.

It is hard to enjoy a short hike with all that "just in case" weight. If you spend a night out by accident, and are comfortable, you know you brought too much gear in the first place.
