Tyrade - 2007 Overall Knife Of The Year by Blade!

Kershaw is doing real well, expecially in their ZT line. Even some of their lower end knives are hard to pass up: The Groove is as sweet a flipper as you'll find... fast that is. I've had several of the ZT's, and I recenly picked up the Titanium/ZT189 mini Cyclone. I LOVE that thing, and Kershaw is setting a standard of quality and value. SO, if this Tyrade ends up at $350, I'm sure it will feel like a 350 knife when you have it in your hand. Price really depends on how much value you get... at least that's was us marketing types like to remind the consumer. If you spend $x for something that gives you $xx value, then you will be happy. I haven't been unhappy with anything from Kershaw.

By the way... (and I'm a custom fan too), the same cost/value rule applies to custom makers, even with all the intangible hands on that goes into the knife. So, a wise maker should always be cosidering this... regardless of simply "what they can get" for their knives in a hot market. I have a lot of respect for makers who try to balance making a living vs. controling the price of their product so that their artwork ends up in more happy consumers hands. Those makers often have longevity.

Was cruisin' around the web and found a site that is taking pre-orders for the Tyrade. Pricing in the low 200's. I'll be getting a couple for that price.

I think we should not complain about Kershaw entering high price zone. They also provide full line of Sandvic top design and very affordable knives like JYDII. So I guess they just cover market from bottom to top and provides high end sandwich Tyrade as well as high quality made in USA Sandvic JYDII for the price which can compete easy with things which were made in Communist China.

Thanks, Vassili.

$135 for my TiZDP Leek.....add another $65 for this beast of a knife....IMHO, not bad at all.

I've been lookng forward to this knife since it was revealed at Blade, and do not feel the price is out of line in any way. I have been waiting for a long time for Kershaw to release some of Ken Onions designs with high end materials and small batch attention to detail, and think that ten years from now these beauties will be in high demand by collectors.

Congrats on all the awards especially the koji as well.

For reference browsing the web I've seen places taking orders for the Tyrade at prices ranging from $180-$220 so it does seem rather reasonable.

Nice Knife, love the blade technology. The slight turn off for me is it bears a striking resemblance to a JYDII. I can see the differences, but the similarities are there. I would have to see one in hand.

Congratulations on the award. From what I can see it was earned.
Awesome technology, truly 'cutting edge', (sorry).
This knife is on my wishlist.

Why is it a turn off for you? Cause you think Ken Onion is copying the JYD or something like that? Let's not forget who taught Tim how to make knives.

If Kershaw could only make one of these, or the strider collaboration, without the recurve blade....

The comparison was a first impression that is why I qualified it with " would have to see it hand". I am no way trying to say it is a copy or anything negative toward any designer. I was stating why I probably won't buy it. It was my impression that it has similar lines to a JYD2 and I already have one of those. I am carrying my JYD2 everyday. I am still trying to decide whether it will be a regular or not. I absolutely love the lines, flipper and handle ergonomics but am kind of stymied by the thick spearpoint blade. I think the blade shape and the hump on the back of the handle is what makes me make the comparison in the first place.

I am not a hardcore collector so I rarely buy the same or similar knife twice or have safe queens. I buy knives to use. Those that I don't use on a semi-regular basis I give to friends etc. i.e. I have a plain 1660 Leek, and love it, but won't go buy every color and steel combination of Leek. If I did buy another Leek, I would probably pass on my old one. Different strokes, different folks :) I am the type of guy that if I bought a Tyrade would be using and abusing it on a daily basis.

I really like the technology the are using on the knife and am looking forward to what Kershaw is bringing out in the future. They have really innovated in the past few years and are being really competitive and bringing out quality products at a great price point. Considering the tech I think that $350 MSRP is not overboard and $200 street is a steal.
