Tyrant Bowie Prototype Run- Z Tuff

Interesting timing SwarthyGnome SwarthyGnome … my proto-on-proto arrived today! TGM AIR MAX was on package slaying duty today.

Here is the proto-on-proto with the 3v version

And the growing Huntsman family portrait

Surprisingly, the balance point of the proto-on-proto and 3v with g10 is pretty similar, even though it does feel a little heftier

Awesome pics! Looking forward to seeing the 3V and Z Tuff go head to head!!

Got a batch of Z Tuff orders going out now 🙌

Been working on some different finishes for the rest of this batch. Thought I'd share this pretty rad Tyrant with a full blown satin finish.... I think I'll be running a few more of these. *Warning, may cause temporary blindness in direct sunlight.

Well guys, so I got my Tyrant! 🫡
Once you receive it you will find that the sheath is literally the best there is, attention to detail, finger groove, just super, respect.
Perfectly sharpened, no burr is visible in the microscope.
Weight, I don’t know guys, this is a big blade, when you hold it in your hands, you understand that it should weigh like that, the impact of the blows feels amazing. I chopped with it for about 30 minutes, actively, in the heat, my sweaty hands, they still hold the handle perfectly, you don’t lose your grip.
I really like the shape and weight distribution, you can make big shots, but also little things.
The steel holds an edge amazingly, and the BTE value of 0.030 with a stated sharpening angle of 18 degrees is amazing, with one blow, on large wood, you go very deep.
Honestly, the way I used it was probably too much.I touched the seals, hit the ground, the blade itself hit small nails.
After 40 minutes of beating, it is perfectly intact and the cutting edge is where it was.
Through the microscope (I know what I'm talking about)
The cutting edge, after impacts, looks better than other blades with CPM3V steel.
This blade is really competitive.I mean, blade is very cool.
The blade is made like a tank, I really like the confidence with which you can make a strong swing and hit wood or other materials.
You are not afraid to miss the blade, you are not afraid that it will get bored, you are not afraid of not piercing the material. And most importantly, you are not afraid that the work you do with it will be “too much”
No guys, it won’t, he’s perfect.
Thank you very much for this blade 🫡🫡🫡

Awesome feedback man! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a thorough review! It means alot! So much work goes into each one of these. I'll have to show you guys the behind the scenes sometime. I could make 5 knives of a different model in the time it takes me to make one of these. I hope they a truly something special.

Be sure, the Tyrant is already something special, literally.
I think the Tyrant took as much time as it would to make 5 blades, but you know, it feels like it’s worth it and good 😅
By making them, you’ve set a very high standard for what blades can be, and on top of that, you won’t be the same anymore. I mean, I’m more than sure this experience in your work will help you make new blades with a certain ease.
I’m telling you, guys, this blade, in time, will be something rare, coveted, and truly unique.
I assure you, the Tyrant hasn’t shown its full potential yet—it’s just the beginning 😎

My Osage scales would look great on that satin blade…but after paying more in the pre-order for a standard 3V blade than what this satin blade is selling for hurts to see… 😒

Doing a stonewashed finish costs more and takes much longer believe it or not. I can do a satin finish on your Z Tuff blade if you'd like. I'd love to see it with those scales. 🙌

Honestly I would consider making that the standard then. I think the perceived value is much higher.

I can certainly offer it on a limited basis. Stonewashed is a better performing finish for real world use but the satin does look absolutely sublime.

The real challenge with satin is keeping the blade scratch free through production.

Alright, dudes, I'm back with new tests for the Tyrant, and I'm stoked again! 😎
So, I was chopping some wood, some super hard type that was sitting in my shed. There was this knot, tough as hell, felt like something insanely solid. I went at it with every part of the Tyrant. Then, I sliced through about a dozen different boxes—not those flimsy Amazon ones or whatever, but monster boxes, the kind with hardcore rivets, two or three times thicker than regular cardboard, used for hauling heavy parts or something.

I hit one of those rivets with the blade, and man, it was fine—scared me a bit, though! The sound was like a crunchy, screechy nightmare. But I checked the blade, and it’s pristine, absolutely perfect, just a tiny dent.

So I thought, alright, Tyrant, let’s push you harder. I started cutting through those rivets and cardboard like a maniac, not holding back, just smashing through them.

It’s awesome—tons of boxes demolished, tons of wood conquered, and the Tyrant is still as good as new.
(Under a microscope, you’d see PERFECT DENTS, trust me, NOT A SINGLE CHIP in the steel, just a PERFECT dent along the edge. I ran the blade over a honing rod, and guess what? It’s cutting paper again 😎).IMG_6605.jpeg
