i am not fan of n690, though. handle shape isn't for me, but i like the one of the blade

They're ripoffs of the Tuff Knives Tanic, the resemblances are quite obvious: EDIT - I found where they're being sold, they're obvious fakes of the Tuff Knives Tanic, down to the lockbar cutout being identical. The blade with the fuller is lifted from J.B. Stout's "Iron Tusk" knife.

Okay, I see similarities, even obvious ones, but I wouldn't call them ripoffs. The blade shape is way different.

There aren't a lot of great photos out there, but the blade without the fuller is an exact blade shape that Tuff Knives has done before. If you go back through his YouTube videos you will certainly find it. Almost everything else about the handles are identical.

And I named the wrong J.B. Stout knife, it's actually the "Blood and Thunder", which is a very distinct blade:

Who is "they?"

Where are you finding these pieces? I think that info would help...

They are "they" :D :

(( spare us the link to a shady purveyor ))

That explains it... 'Bama' calls it an original design because that's their specialty. Another Chinese company has graduated from straight-up counterfeits and clones, to 'original designs' that cherry-pick elements from popular customs, changing them just enough for the move to qualify as shady and under-handed, instead of a complete rip-off. They're on their way in the wonderful world of knife-making. ;)

Note: I'm assuming they're Chinese, since the Titanium-alloy listed is TC4 (Chinese designation for 6Al4V)... and they're using Ali Express.

I also find it a bit suspicious that they list the blade steel as CPM-D2 since, as far as I know, Crucible is not longer making that steel. Not saying that it's impossible they snagged some of it, just that I'd think long and hard before I spent any money on that.

Reate and Carson Tech Labs make great knives, and I don't really have any problems with Chinese knife-makers. Some might get worried about all these new companies, but I don't think it will cause any real concerns. While people have been willing to support Reate, paying 200-400$ for really well-made knives with unique designs, makers like Bama aren't going to find many people willing to pay that same amount for obvious/fairly obvious rip-offs... I hope. Who knows, maybe they've got less derivative models.

I've said the same thing, in that case Rike; it's funny though, the listing is pre-emptively defensive about the steel really being CPM D2; From the ad:

I wish I knew 'the test'. Whatever it is, I doubt any simple test could differentiate between CPM D2 and generic D2, since they have the same composition. Although, if you know what to look for, the grain structure should look different under a microscope...

But since I don't know what I'm looking for, and I don't have a microscope, I guess I'll pass on the Bama... and go buy a microscope. Hurray for science!:)

It's obviously a Tuff Knives Tanic handle with my Blood and Thunder Blade. Doesn't hurt my business. Unfortunately it happens a lot, not much to do about it.
