WASHINGTON -- In a victory for gun-rights advocates, the federal government is preparing to relax a decades-old ban on bringing loaded firearms into national parks.

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne said Friday that his department would suggest new regulations by the end of April that could bring federal rules into line with state laws concerning guns in parks and public lands. His announcement came in a letter to Sen. Michael D. Crapo (R-Idaho), one of 50 senators who have written to him about the issue. Senators from both parties have backed a drive to repeal the ban, which has been in place in some parks for at least 100 years.

There is the typical bias in the article, but I'm not so sure the media will win this one. +1 for Freedom.

I am. However they better get it done before the most liberal senators we have end up as President and Vice President. They would veto that in a skinny heartbeat. I am sick of the top dogs deciding which of our rights we are allowed to pursue. We were allowed our guns and knives while we served their interests at war.

That sounds great!

Now let's get DE to pass a law allowing me to carry a knife over 3".....

Sounds good enough. Though it seems mostly symbolic to me. Really, being able to take a firearm into a NP... BFD! I generally only schlep a gun around when I'm going shooting/hunting, a low likelihood of such activity in a NP. I'd much rather have some other, more substantive gun laws repealed.
