UBE and a Rotten Tree

Howard,

This is my main challenge with ahimsa, as usually held by Buddhists. I am of the opinion that it is intimately connected with Buddhism because the Jains originated about the same time, and it was absorbed.

If my goal is understanding the world- and it is- it is foolish to pretend that something does not die so that something else may live. This is the natural way, and being natural, it must be the right way, as well.

Feel free to contact me directly if you don't want to discuss this on the open forum.

Bill's not here for me to talk about this...:( Dammit, none of y'all take that long walk.

Seems to me a great thing to talk about here - but it might get booted into the Cantina.

Tom, it's a respiratory condition. I have to use an inhaler some times 'cuz of it.:foot: Just kidding, hope no one takes offense.

Munk, last year a cougar killed a colt on the ranch next to the one I hunt hogs on. Killed it less than a hundred yards from the ranch house! As a crow flies, this is about 20 miles from San Jose, California! Earlier this year I saw my first cougar, and it wasn't in the "woods". It was 50 yrds from the side of HWY 680 on the outskirts of Fremont (just north of San Jose). I bring up both of these to confirm your belief that there are lots of these guys in this state.

BTW, nice pictures, and beautiful kukri. How long ago did you folks start seeing turkeys in your area? They introduced them here about 30 years ago and they have really established themselves.

Cantina's a good place. For us illiterates, what's ahimsa?

It's a Sanscrit word best translated as "no injury." It was popularized and introduced to the west as a philosophy by Mohandas Gandhi. Someone practicing ahimsa trys to avoid giving injury to any living being.
