Glass, I'll have to drink some nasty beer to get clear glass.

This is all based off of cootes drawing, but thanks.

I get longer burn times from my mini and it weighs less, Smersh. What candles are you using? A tin can takes care of protecting the glass.

Interesting -- what minis are you using? They're so tiny, it's hard to see how they could last longer than a full size candle. I just use the basic UCO refills.

Good stuff Skimo.

So how did you remove the bottom from the bottle?

Best wishes.... Coote.

Here is the mini
They have a 3 candle Candlelier model now too!

I kinda thought my Uco link showed all that on page two.
It also shows the advantages of the lanterns at bottom of page.

Here it is again:

As for Early Winters, did anyone buy the brass lanterns?? Too much money for me back then.

Anyone else use the oil can instead of candle??
The led is nice for non fire for kids, need heat for tent condensation.

I used to carry EW one with spare candle/matches in a universal ammo case/pouch next to one with USGI 5 qt canteen bladder under van seat.

Tossed in a drill bit and shook it till the bottom broke out, I used an old mismatched sock to hold the bottle in as well, clean break and no glass on the floor of my work area.

All the good beers come in dark glass. Saw that in a commercial.

Well, that's not exactly true, there are good micro brews that are kept in the dark, but yes, for mass manufacturing I can't recall a really good beer being put in a clear bottle.

Hey guys,

Any of yall have the original (not the mini or 3 candle version) UCO candle lantern? What do you think? Is it worth it? Looks like a pretty nifty little lantern.

Hey there,

I've got the original UCO candle lantern, and I must say, it's definitely worth it if you're looking for a reliable and portable light source. Here are a few points based on my experience:

Pros of the UCO Candle Lantern

  • Compact and Portable: The lantern is lightweight and easy to carry, making it perfect for camping, hiking, or emergency use.
  • Durable Build: It's made with high-quality materials, ensuring it can withstand rough outdoor conditions.
  • Decent Burn Time: Each candle lasts about 9 hours, which is pretty impressive. It's great for long nights or power outages.
  • Versatile Use: Besides providing light, it also gives off a bit of warmth, which can be a bonus on chilly nights.

Things to Consider

  • Light Output: While it provides a nice ambient glow, it's not super bright. If you're looking for something to light up a large area, you might need additional light sources.
  • Maintenance: You'll need to regularly trim the wick and replace the candles. This isn't a big deal, but it's something to keep in mind.

8hr Tealights in Comparison

I've also used 8hr Tealights, and while they don’t fit in the UCO lantern, they are a great alternative for longer burn times if you have suitable holders. They provide steady light and can be handy for different situations.

Overall, the UCO candle lantern is a nifty little lantern that's worth having, especially if you enjoy the simplicity and reliability of candlelight. Just remember to stock up on the UCO candles to keep it running!

Hope this helps!
