Okay, so here be what happened.
I tried to tighten my grivory down way to much and threads formed inside the grivory for the bolts. I then noticed small depressions forming on the underside. I tried sanding out the middle depression and I screw the hardware back in and found that it would not go for some reason and then took them out. Guess what?? Part of the depression that I had just sanded out of the middle hole came out on the screw. I took a razor blade to it but could not get it off. Now the middle hole is much bigger than the top and bottom!! L4NE4 is sending me some stainless hardware (thanks dude!!) so I don't have to worry about the bolt. I'm pretty sure I learned my lesson. The lesson was: A: don't go into china shops :D and B: don't tighten up grivory to tight. Soooo my question is: what should I do? I'm guessing buy some micarta :D but I really don't have the funds to buy it atm.

Here are pics of the damage:

Update:
I guess I can just leave it as it is, and when I get that stainless hardware from the awesome L4NE4 I can just put in the middle nut and bolt to make it look like it is holding the scales. Here are pics of it w/out the nut and bolt.

You learned a lesson inexpensively, so that's ok. They weren't engine head bolts............

I still have the stock grivory handles on my BK2 (and some hockey tape of course), but I have micarta on my ESEE 5, and it's a beautiful thing

The bolts aren't really my problem, but the grivory is. I need new grivory because I cannot afford micarta right now.

It's Xmas. Time to splurge on yourself and micarta is a nice stocking stuffer. Just use it until Xmas eve, then put it in your stocking and thank Santa for being such a cool dude

you are one smart man, Clichenwalnut.

You have no idea. You could do what I do, just buy what I want and tell the wife I "traded" for it. Which isn't really a lie I just don't say I traded money for it. :D

When I purchased my micarta it was tough for me to spend the money. I went to tomars and found them at a decent price and also purchased some stainless hardware from a local shop. Though, once they came in and I got those suckers installed all of my worries went away. They really are an investment, and a great one at that. My biggest peave with the grivory was the constant tightening and also in your case the overtightening of the scales. My micarta tigten down snuggly without overdoing it and I haven't had any problems as of yet with them coming loose. And as for comfort? Unmatched. Just my $0.02

You can break the micarta if you crank them bolts down too tight also. I also this one time, stripped out one of the bolts, a stainless one. They just need to be snug and blue loc tite'ed on. they won't come off. I've screwed up most things that can be screwed up on these knives.

Grivory rocks - just don't destroy it. From your post, I'd say neither the bolts nor the grivory is the problem but rather your tightening exuberance.

If you need a new set of the grivory to tide you over til micarta time just pm me your shipping details I have a dozen or so pairs laying around here.

I've done the same thing.

I've done it to the micarta too. I'm on my 12th set of micarta at the moment, and really, blue loctite, and a good snug fit is all that is needed.

Just a note, Kabar does sell the grivory handles as well as micarta, so, if you wanted to go back with grivory, there is your huckleberry.
