Ugh, bad Spyderco related press.

It obviously was NOT a matriarch. Do you really believe that if the guy had been carrying something as wicked looking as a matriarch that the press would have passed up the opportunity to smear those pictures everywhere? My guess would be just a Delica or Endura, but who knows. Don't reckon it really matters. Im going fishing.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought Endura.

I was thinking of getting a dragon fly, though I usually like bigger knives. Might just have to now that it is famous.

My guess is probably a Delica 4. I'm figuring that, to the non-knife press, a 3" blade looks like 3.5".

I remember once I saw a news program where someone showed a photo of a Spydie Military to Nancy Grace, and she pulled out a pair of nail clippers and said, "See this? This is the most dangerous thing I carry! WHO in their right mind needs to carry a machete around in their pocket?" (I'm paraphrasing).

Jim

I went to DC in 1998/9 and took a tour of the White House. I am surprised that guy got to the building. Not only were snipers on the roof, but I saw guy with a shoulder fired surface to air launcher. The other thing is I was carrying a Case Sodbuster and turned it in before the tour and got it back after. In fact all the building we visited allowed me to keep it except for the FBI tour.

Did anyone else read that article and imagine Obama standing at a window and menacingly commanding, "release the hounds."

Any press is good publicity they say but I'm thinking that Sal can't be pleased with this. The guy is portrayed as a crazed knifed lunatic after all.

What I don't get actually is based on his previous contacts in the recent past, this gentleman obviously has some mental issues. Why was he not put away rather than turned back out onto the street. He's homeless, not that that's a crime, but this guy obviously really needs a keeper.

If they can't tell the difference between the steel used in the blade and the model of the knife, what makes anyone think they can measure the damn blade length. Media people today are lacking in their ability to check facts and follow up on answers given to them.*

This.

It really pisses me off that they feel the need to make the story about the knife. The knife should not be the story. I've read the accounts from several different news sources, and I'm gathering that what happened is a veteran who did three tours in Iraq, who has since had a history of run-ins with the law and very irrational behavior, did not receive the mental health help he apparently needed. Now he is gonna probably do ten years in Federal lockup. From what I've read, the guy threatened no one and endangered no one - tell me why he needs to do time for that...

People are hysterical enough over knives as it is, this is the last thing we need. The poor bastard probably used that Dragon fly to eat an apple at lunch before he hopped over the fence, but the media have to indirectly imply that he was going to try to gut the president with it. Next thing you know, secret service goons will shoot you on sight for using a Delica to open a bubble-pack. It's even worse over here, I remember years ago there was a guy picked up in my local town, he was wandering around very confused and kept trying to stop people and talk to them. Turned out he had mental health issues (but absolutely no history of violence or aggressiveness), and had simply walked out of a secure unit and wandered into town. He was extremely vulnerable, and by then they were looking for him anyway, so they tried to take him in. He resisted, so the police cuffed him and searched him. They found, amongst other things, a cheap grooming kit in his bag with a small nail file in it. It was metal and pointed at one end.

The headline in the local paper was: MENTAL PATIENT WITH CONCEALED SHARP IMPLEMENT RETURNED TO LOCAL NHS ACCOMMODATION.

Unbelievable.

Bush still beats him on vacation time.....Bush took way more, but I am sure it didn't mater to you back then.

Of course Bush was intellectually always on vacation so it didn't really matter whether he was in the White House or his redneck ranch or wherever.
