Ugly, Garish & Useless

I've been gifted knives and even other things like that.

One thing I hate most is patriotic themed things or anything supporting our military that are not made in my country, I'm not going to let some foreign country profit off the patriotism I have for my country.
Those words on the item mean nothing because they do not support my countries industry of manufacturing.

Recently my dad found me a T shirt at a gift shop somewhere that says " Made in America from American parts " and the shirt is made in Honduras, needless to say I don't wear that T shirt.
Thinking about it now I belive the shirt is supposed to suggest that I was " Made in America with American parts ", which is funny but I just can't wear a shirt with that on it unless it's made here.

I was gifted a couple of knives, fixed blade, from my mom, that she found/acquired somehow. She knew I liked knives, and she got them for me. They are the same "type" of knife, showy, flashy, so at the time I just thanked her very much for the gift.
She passed a few years ago, and I would not let those knives go for anything. The trite old saying is very true in this case..... "it's the thought (love) that counts"....

The way I see it the family members who gifted these to me had a mere awareness of my interest, and there these were in a catalog so they just phoned it in to check me off the Christmas shopping list.
We've all done it, and I have stuck my mom with just as many bad gifts over the years.
They can and have given me great thoughtful gifts that happen to be related to my hobbies, so I feel no shame in not caring about the bad ones.

I understand your situation though, and there may be a time when I do eventually care about these cheap shelf dwellers.

Reading the headline I was actually expecting something much worse. That one is kinda... acceptable, I think.

well, I certainly hope nobody was taking my post as a criticism, as it most certainly was not that.... I was just reminded of cheap knives that were given as gifts, and remembered the ones my mom gave me.... just a stroll down memory lane for this old fart.....

If I had not read the first post, and just went off the OP's title, I might have thought he was talking about me.... 😁

What's wild about that is that America's infatuation with Bowie knives during the 1800's, wound up with the Sheffield England made Bowie knives, many etched with patriotic American slogans, making up 90% of all Bowie knives sold in America.

Here is a pic I found online of a fantastic specimen... I would absolutely LOVE to own this beauty!

My friend knows I like guns. Well they got me a cartridge keychain when on vacation. But it doesn’t suit me. I like guns and bullets, but not gun themed things. I don’t wear gun related clothing. The friend redeemed themselves with 2 boxes of ammo for Christmas. I havent shot it up yet and it’s been three years. It’s a little sentimental, the keychain I don’t know where it is.

My aunt gave me a knife with a fork and spoon that fold to the outside of the handle. I was about 10, or so and I tried to sound appreciative, but I don't think I was convincing. I should have used it to eat the meal she served us. Fifty years later and both the knife and my aunt are long gone. Now, I wish I still had it.
