Ugly Knives

Goodness gracious, what's with the hostility? If you've shared your opinion on a given knife, leave it at that and move on. No reason to resort to flaming what someone ELSE finds to be useful or attractive.

Isn't that the entire point of this thread?

To my understanding, the point of this thread was to post or comment on something that you find ugly.

Stating your opinion that you find something ridiculous is not the same as outright telling someone that they are somehow less discerning, intelligent, or tasteful in their choices simply because you might dislike the item in question.

On a side note - 500th Post. Yay. Time to get that giveaway going I suppose.

Exactly! Thats why I said that Pterodactyl was a "...poorly-designed, butt ugly knife..."

I didn't say a thing about the owners of the knife! I thought that was in the spirit of the good natured fun that was going on.

Sure, if people started trashing individuals like Gil Hibben and the attendees of the 2009 Knifemakers Guild Show, I agree...that would have been out of hand and inappropriate attacking of an individual. Thank goodness that never happened!

BTW...congrats on 500!

And you got me worried now about my Lightning OTF comments, deebo! :foot:

I hope my comments haven't caused anybody to get "...sand in their va-jay-jay"!

While many of you guys have posted many ugly looking knives, I think that no ugliness in this thread costs as much as the Masters of Ugliness - Surefire. Their knives look ridiculous, and have an even more absurd price tag. FFS, these guys have lost it. They should stick to making flashlights ONLY!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned any of my mods...

Thanks... there we go...

I actually quite like a lot of them. I remember there was a Spyderco you butchered, but for the most part, they don't look bad. I loved that ZT.

That was a great background lesson on Gil Hibben. Thanks! Gil's designs were some of the first that caught eye as a young teenager. I do have a few knives made by Gil himself (non-fantasy), and they are very well done pieces, as well as usable.

In regards to being a knife user and a mall ninja:

I carry a knife because it is a tool that I use on a daily basis. A mall ninja is someone like this that gets inspiration from shows like "Naruto" (those symbols and texts are from that) where they've been so engrossed in this 'anime' that it's a way to identify with the characters they enjoy.

In no way shape or form am I a mall ninja because I look at knives online, and in no way am I a mall ninja because the normal average person does not carry a knife, just like how playing a sport does not make you a 'jock'.

Mike Carter:

Thanks for the perspective, I see knives as functional tools, and don't see a reason to have one that I can't use. I appreciate knives like the ones Gil Hibben's makes just like I appreciate cars like the Bugatti Veyron, but if I had a million six USD I'd buy an Aston Martin instead. :D

Is it bad if i own most of the knives pictured in this thread?

No it's great!...For Gil Hibben :D

"no one gets out alive" Gil can be your mentor, hero, catalyst whatever - cool, but if he won a design/er of the year (or whatever) award for that monstrosity he's wearing - the Klingon Bird of Prey knife - he's fair game for this thread and also the Tacticlol thread too.

Nobody called you a Mall Ninja but you can be one or not and I'm okay with your decision. :)
