So, I've been selling off a lot of my knives lately in an attempt at downsizing/simplifying my life a bit. It's also allowed my the funds to pay off some debt. Its been going really well, and actually feels really good. But now it's happening again - I'm online looking around, when I spot a knife that is just too beautiful not to own. Here it is. Picture courtesy of dealer website.

It has everything I love in a knife. Small, pocketable size. Clip point main blade, coping secondary, ebony wood, long pulls, threaded bolsters, swedge. I even dig he bail on this particular knife. I can just imagine how much better it will look without the blade etching, and with some patina on the blades.

WHAT DO I DO !?!?!?!?!

Now I know this isn't what you came here for but...I think you answered your own question :D

Don't ask me pal, I'm drawn to that knife as well. And I'm supposed to be the leader of the cult of the peanut. That is one very nice pocket knife. If it was in stag, I'd have trouble staying loyal to my damascus 'nut!

Carl.

Tell me about it Carl. There's just something very classic looking about it. I love the lack of a shield. I guess if I've sold off fives knives, and I buy one, I'm still in the negative so technically I've still been successful in downsizing. :)

As long as I can tell my wife that Carl says its ok, I guess I'll go for it !!!

Yeah, the lack of a shield is a plus for me in a small knife. And of course I love and prefer a small knife. It's one of my pet peeves with Case and other companies, that they put shields on knives under 3 and 1/4 inches. I really hate that. I just feel that with a small knife like a peanut, or conductor, with nice stag or jigged bone, or even a nice wood like rosewood or ebony, a shield is too much. Takes away from admiring the small amount of scale material there is.

Not to mention I love the bail. Give it a real nice old timey look to it. Like it's just begging for a silver watch chain to be attached to.

Okay, so tell the better half I said to buy it. She can give me a ring, and I'll explain how it's close enough to the peanut that the cult made you do it!
:D

Yup, Just like that. Man that's awesome looking. Are the bolsters on yours gold or is it just the lighting? The bolsters on the dealers website pics look silver.

That knife is crazy nice! I'm not sure I am sold on the bail, but everything else is great.

Did anyone mention the size?

I went with bail-less though. I like that the stag was thin, not bulbous.

Must be the lighting. Those are cell phone pics, and I used the software in the phone to try to "help" the exposure.

I Flitzed the factory etching off, then I used Ferric Chloride to etch the blade and spring, then used a little Flitz to soften it up a bit.
I will have to get a better picture soon, the etching has darkened a bit with use since then. The spring is especially dark, almost black.

I have the white owl in snakewood. Its very similiar to the conductor (single spring, two blade, same size?). It an awesome pocket knife. Its really thin and pockets very easily. Get that conductor! You will not regret it!

A conductor in ebony will be my next purchase.

Wow 2Dead, that's really nice too. I'm so close to pulling the trigger on the ebony one. The only thing that's stopping my is that little voice saying "Do you really NEED this knife? Isn't this how we got in this position in the first place?" That and the fact that I have a Case half whittler that I'm pretty sure is almost the same pattern size and shape wise as the Conductor. That being said, This is one of those knives that if I don't buy, a few years down the road when they're hard to come by, I'll be cursing myself for not getting it while I had the chance.

Thanks mdsmith. I know what you mean, do you need this knife. And I'm sure for a lot of us the answer is no, we already have a knife but if you get it, carry it and that question will go away. While I don't carry the 3 conductors I posted, I have carried a Tidioute Ebony #33 and pretty much carry a 440c elk #33 everyday. It's a lot of knife for its package. As is the #68 zrfunited posted (a little longer at 3 1/2" and a little wider).

GEC's Conductor in all forms is an aesthetically satisfying knife, it's remarkably well made and gives you a lot of decent sized Clip blade.

Looks like downsizing became the new enlargement :D "The best laid schemes of mice & men..."

What do you do? come on, we all know the answer...
I'm not a fan of pen configurations, but that ebony #33 looks really nice (and I was betting that Trand would come out with the stag #33 to pull Carl's leg).
I will give you my two cents of advice.
Downsize more, and get the Conductor. I have no idea of how many knives you own, or how many you've sold lately, but if you like this one so much, I'm sure that you can look at your knives and find something that you would swap for the #33.
That's the way I do it. And I can count my knives with the fingers of m hand, and consider myself happy, cause every knife I got has come as an "improvement" to the one that had to go.
Sidenote: Stu, I love the etch on your knife. If I may ask, how did you apply ferric chloride on the spring? a q-tip or something like that?

Fausto
