Uh oh, just sold my guitar so now I'm flush with cash...so begins the search! Hehe

Does the wave design work on your Emerson? I seen videos but was just wonder what your experience was?
Oh yes. The wave feauture works as advertised on all my Emersons. There's really nothing quite like having that blade snap open the second it leaves your pocket. I love it!

What kind of guitar did you sell? Just curious.

Sold a Taylor 714ce. One of the sweetest steel string acoustic guitars I've ever laid hands on! Highly recommend it! I just never play it. I play hours a day, but all I play is my flamenco nylon. It's a beauty, hand made and straight from Spain. I live in the tropics and couldn't stand the idea of a $2500 guitar hanging on the wall. the climate down here has a tendency to EAT nice guitars! So i sold it to someone who will enjoy it!

And to answer one of the previous questions, of course I didn't sell a guitar to buy a knife I don't need. Por favor! But it IS a great excuse to spend $100-200 on something frivolous.

Back to knives...So far, I'm leaning towards something "heavy duty" as that is the gap in my knives right now. So, yeah, zero tolerance might qualify. Somebody said the 0200 edge doesn't cut/slice so well? Any recommendations for a good zt if not the 0200?

This is true, I keep going to kershawguys site looking at all those beautiful ZTs, I'm trying real hard not to buy anything, but he's got a couple limited editions on there I'm eyeing up.

Yeah, Dave (Kershawguy) has some smoking deals. He hooked me up a couple of weeks ago on a knife that I couldn't find ANYWHERE that wasn't almost double the price since it was a discontinued model. Couple of members recommended I email him on the chance that he might have one tucked away and sure enough he did. Even gave me a smoking deal on it. Great guy with great prices. I've purchased several ZTs and Kershaws from him, too many too count.

The 0200 cuts very well. But it is a massive knife. Those handle slabs are not flat.

As far as partial serrations go, any recurved blade is practically designed for them. Put the serrations at the ricasso and leave the belly plain.

The Wave can work "too" well. If you just want to pull the knife from your pocket without opening the blade, and forget your blade is Waved -- pop! It opens anyway, probably halfway because you didn't use quite enough force, and snick! you're bleeding.

Just curious, I had never heard of kershaw guy before, but I just checked out his site. What exactly are the "blems"? Are those simply cosmetic issues? If so, I would get one of those in a heartbeat if its nothing compromising the normal function of the knife! Anyone know anything about this?

With that kind of money (not sure how much you can or are willing to put towards a knife) I would get a nice Hinderer, Strider or wait for the release of the 2013 ZT models. I think you would like the 0566 or 0454. Let us know what you decide and good luck!

If your looking for heavy duty, and want the knife to have one of the best, if not the best lock, I would seriously consider a Benchmade Adamas.

It is the heaviest duty Benchmade. The lock is even 25% larger than a normal Axis lock. I also should mention that I would personally only buy the black colored one, as the tan handles are just tan coated black G-10.

It is a solid knife, for sure.

Yeah blems are always cosmetic issues. They are fully functional, but have a small blemish, and they have no warranty. I have a couple of ZTs, they are great knives. They do come with a slight obtuse edge, but they can be reprofiled if so desired. My 350 has a slimmer edge than my 303, so it slices much better, but I keep my 303 a bit more obtuse because it suits my needs. I would recommend both of these ZTs. I think you would love any of the ZTs, they are great knives. However, if you are worried about the weight, Emerson knives are built like tanks but are lighter than the ZTs. I had a ZT 200 for a short time, but I found it to be uncomfortable in the pocket because of its thickness, some people don't have this issue, but its just something I thought I should mention. If you like the looks of the ZT 200 then I would suggest you take a look at the Emerson Commander and CQC-15.

Good Luck!

IMO, that's the worst part of getting a blem - the lack of warranty. Other than that, they are knives that didn't pass QC due to cosmetic reasons.

Oof! That 0566 is pretty sweet looking! I'm kind of thinking over the spyderco military idea too. I keep feeling like the military would be the more useful, but im a spyderco fan and probably a bit biased. Caly 3.5 has always looked nice to me too. I appreciate the opinions and thoughts as I live outside the u.s. and don't have the chance to see these knives before I buy!

Think about a used Strider SnG.
I have been into knives since 1977 and my EDC rotation has constantly been a CQC7, Para Military or my SnG.
If you'd like a nice, good priced custom, Google Black Bear Knives.

If you like the Caly 3.5 you might consider the version with carbon fiber scales and a ZDP laminate blade.

The Military is one of those rare knives that people who get one generally ask themselves "What took me so long?"

I just said that to myself about the Para Military 2 Monday.
I wish the Military had a compression lock and tip up carry.

That said I have one in my shopping cart right now.

I prefer tip down. Works better in my right back pocket.

I have no idea how to close a compression lock one-handed. Nuisance. The Military's liner lock has never given me trouble.

For righties hold with middle finger and thumb then use index finger to press the lock, a quick flick of the wrist and its closed :) more difficult for lefties. Ive had my para2 for almost 2 weeks now and it hasnt left my side yet. Its quickly become my favorite edc

Thanks, but that doesn't come close to working. I have short, arthritic fingers and a Szabo. The Gunting's compression lock was easy.

Ah yeah i can see that being a big problem. The compression lock definitely isnt the more user friendly when it comes to arthritis

Have you considered a fixed blade? Lots of nice options out there

Yeah, I've considered a fixed blade, but I just don't think I'd use one much, because I'd never carry it. Im just getting back into carrying knives after not carrying a blade for the last 20 years. I live in the tropics in a very casual little town, so daily attire is t-shirt and surf trunks. So I rarely even have a proper pocket. The knives that got me back into carrying were the mini grip and the dragonfly (both of which I wear on a cord around my neck). So, I guess size and weight is really important. I ordered a manix 2 lightweight (since I convinced myself I needed a bigger folder) and it hasnt arrived yet, but I'm anxious to see how much carry time it gets compared to the dragonfly which never leaves my side (well, my neck) now.

Probably what I need to do is just get the manix and use it and the dragonfly for a while and see how it goes with those two. The REAL PROBLEM is that I hang around here listening to you guys and I want all kinds of stuff now! Hehehe. But I need to be careful. Believe it or not, I'm a complete minimalist. I HATE owning anything that I don't use daily. So a "safe queen" is definitely not for me. Maybe I'll use what I've got for awhile and see if there are any holes in my lineup.

Well, that's what I SHOULD do. What I'll probably do instead is get a wild hair one night and order another spyderco! ;-)
