So, I've moved a few times in the past couple of years and finally landed in the Santa Cruz area of California. I haven't had a ton of time to fish yet but I've been locating all of my fishing gear. I knew I had a 3wt, 9wt and 11 wt setup along with a bunch of old Pflueger reels. Hmmmph. I couldn't find my old 9wt but while looking I found the 3, a 4, a5 and a 6. 🙃
Then of course I found an old Lamiglas custom 9 and my Penn International 11.
I hope I can find some time to fish.20260422_192148.jpg20260422_192156.jpg

Well, get after it then. 🎣

The Fox River here is closed due to the amount of rain we’ve had and the high and fast conditions.

Hopefully you get out soon.

I need time. I have the gear to catch anything but I only have time to catch a nap. I'm going to start heading to the beach to cast on my days off. I probably won't catch anything but I'll get some practice. I still haven't found the 9 weight I originally bought up in Oregon for salmon but I did find a 9 weight Ugly Stik fly rod that I don't remember having.

That Lamiglas is a beaut.
hope you find some time to get out soon. I need to get out myself. other than a couple short stops after work here and there, I haven't spent any significant time fishing in almost a year.

I just found out that the reservoir I pass on my way to work has some fly practicing areas set aside and some of the locals hang out and will provide info if you ask nicely. I plan to spend some time there really soon. I know I can cast the 9wt and 11wt so I may just head to the beach and target some stripers.
I just gotta do it.

i havent played much with a 3 wt, but i do have a 4 wt that is my go to for mountain trout in my area. I find it easier than my 7 or 9 wts. - but i also learned on 5 and 6wts.
I always found my self fighting the heavier weights, trying to push to much, where the 4 wt was an easy stroke. I like a double taper or level line, but usually on smaller streams where a 30' cast is a rarity. I will be at the river this weekend for our bourbon club meeting, maybe I'll grab a rod and sling some feathers
